Wings of Hope is doing a charity raffle with 3000 tickets being sold for $50 a piece. Winner gets a plane and pilot license. Pretty cool if you'd give $50 to charity anyway...

Sounds like a cool deal, just wouldn't know where to keep it if I won anyway.

Maybe they'll do it again at some point.

It's not like you keep it in your garage... well, I guess you can if you live in a very rural area... dunno.
My friend who owns his own plane rents a space at the local airport... fairly cheap too, I believe since the idea is that he buys his fuel from them.

I do but owning a plane is worse than a boat.
you have to deal with all the faa requirements.

lots of overhead in owning an airplane.
which makes me a sad panda.

The plane is about 37 years old but even so I would go apehsit (happy) if I won that raffle.

every certain number of flight hours, the engine has to be overhauled, the upkeep is VERY expensive.

You're better off joining a flying club and renting a club plane to learn on.

I'd sell it off immediately and invest it into a boat

It would cost you about $5k-10k a year to own and fly a small single engine piston plane. That's covering the storage, inspection, maintenance, gas, and regular contributions to an "oh s--t"/engine overhaul fund and estimating about 100 hours of flight per year.

I don't know if I could afford to keep it but I'd love to win it...
