Joshua, a 9-year-old who lives with a disease called eosinophilic esophagitis, is allergic to nearly all foods. Pizza, hot dogs, you name it, and Joshua likely cannot eat it, or even be allowed to taste it or smell it.
Joshua gets most of his nutrients through a formula prescribed by his doctor, and through a feeding tube in his stomach. Because of his disease, Joshua is homeschooled by his mother, and needs to live his life with extra caution.
Cara and Brant, Joshua's parents, show what a day is like in the life of a boy who cannot eat.
What would happen if Joshua did eat one of the many foods to which he's allergic? He could suffer severe pain, but there is also the possibility that he could die.

Well they do it for the especially bad peanut allergy(which lots of kids have). I doubt he could die from just touching a surface with food and getting a little bit of it into his eye/mouth.

Beer would still be bad! Only spirits are distilled and lower proof spirits that aren't just watered down, could still cause an allergic reaction.

Both naturally occurring thymus-derived FOXP3(+)CD4(+)CD25(+) regulatory T cells and inducible type 1 regulatory T cells suppress the development of allergic diseases via several mechanisms including suppression of dendritic cells, Th cells, mast cells, eosinophils and basophils; suppression of inflammatory cell migration to tissues; and decrease of the ratio between allergen-specific IgE and IgG4 antibodies. These effects are mainly mediated by the suppressive cytokines IL-10 and TGF-ß. Knowledge of this molecular basis is crucial to understanding the regulation of the immune response and their possible therapeutic applications for allergic diseases."

There has been a huge misunderstanding of the difference between intolerance and allergy, as well.
For instance, I have a soy intolerance. I can not digest it, and if I eat to much of it my digestive system rebels against me.
That doesn't mean I'm going to die from dipping my sushi in soy sauce. It just means I might get stomach cramps. Edamame and soy milk haven't killed me yet, but I know well enough to stay the hell away from them unless I want to sit on the toilet with a vomit bucket in front of me for a few hours..
My friend with a corn "allergy" thinks every time she gets a zit it's because she accidentally consumed corn...
