Definitely sticking to Win 7. No reason to even consider upgrading.

This laptop is still on vista, I`ll be upgrading. If it was on 7 I wouldn't bother.

Same here. Windows 7 does everything I need and does it well. If it ain't broke, I don't fix it. Plus I don't plan on giving MS another extortionate upgrade fee unless and until I really need to!

I'm sticking with Win7. No way i'm moving over Win8... maybe Win9 if i buy a PC/Laptop that comes with it and if the OS isn't garbage.

Voted No, assuming Win8 won't change much by release.
If it does and becomes awesome, I'll switch. Not much of a chance of that happening though.

With this computer I'm sticking with XP.

Hopefully I'll be building a new computer in the next couple of months. Which will have Win7 since Win8 won't be out yet. And I'm pretty sure I'll just keep Win7 on it.

Earlier I would have said yes. I was planning to upgrade my main desktop to Windows 8. With the first developer's build we could use a reg edit to bring the original Windows Start menu back up, so it was possible to make the UI mostly desktop friendly again.

Now after using the consumer build. I'm leaning towards not upgrading. It's disappointing Microsoft removed the option to restore the old Start menu. And the keyboard and mouse interaction with Metro apps is extremely inconsistent and poor. I feel like I'm giving up too much and not getting enough back in return now to justify the upgrade.

With a few more months to go before release Microsoft could surprise me and maybe make the Metro UI more desktop friendly. So we'll see.

Also don't have any plans for a Windows 8 tablet this year. The Windows Market is still surprisingly anemic. I would have thought I'd see more apps in it by now. So I may wait on that too.

Sticking with 7 too, but I didn't want to vote first not to influence future votes.

As for many in this thread, 7 does everything I want, and without a lousy user interface and some unneeded and annoying fluff, along with more "security" measures which are only a nuisance for advanced computer users, not to mention the damned locked boot loader. I'm sure 8 will have a lot of success among the general customer though (those who should have bought a Mac instead of a PC maybe... but it's smart from Microsoft to attack that market share).

Windows 7 does not do everything for me. There are some nice things I've seen in Windows 8 I'd like to have. So it's kinda heart breaking that I haven't been able to like the UI yet (spent a few weeks trying too).

Out of curiosity, what do you miss in Windows 7?

Windows 8 fixes the bug in Windows Explorer with how folders on the left pane expand. For example with Windows 7, if you have a long list of folders in the left Explorer pane and expand a folder, that folder drops to the bottom of the left pane and all it's contents are hidden below forcing you to scroll up to see the contents.

Another is the improved task manager and file transfer windows.

Fair enough happy not really worth changing OS to me.
And Supercopier > Windows 8 for file copies wink

I've played with win8 on a core i5 tablet, and I must say, it works pretty well in that environment.  If they can get something like Apples magic track pad going, I could see Win8 working well.  Also, it will be interesting to see how third parties integrate into the UI. I have the consumer release on my laptop and so far it isn't too bad.  I even gave the LT to my mother to use for a bit and she picked right up with it with only a bit of help out of the gate.

If I end up getting a Win8 Tablet I would switch my desktop over as well just for uniformity.....that is the only reason I can see to upgrade at this point.

Sticking with Win 7 on all of my computers, simply no compelling reason to switch.

As my iPad serves all of my tablet needs, I am not interested in a Win 8 tablet (where I expect it will make a more dramatic presentation) so this looks to make yet another case of the "every other OS version" MS has become famous for.

I'm sure I'll load a copy on one of my machines, but I doubt I will do a uniform upgrade across the board.
