Welcome to my hell. I do have some medical crap on my record and it isn't anything I can hide because they are authorized to get copies of my files from my docs when I sign the application. Gone through 3 companies so far, was denied by all 3, waiting on the 4th... sad

I'll be thrown under the bus too.

I have what's considered a "pre-existing condition," namely my deafness.

I even tried getting on my mother's insurance as a "dependent with disabilities." Her employer was like, "Ha, he's not disabled. He's off!" We were like "Hmm... Wow..."

I get to fill out those BS 300 page packets over and over again. I even offer to sign a rider to exclude any pre-existing conditions and still get rejected but am told "You have the right to appeal the decision". I flat out asked one lady at United Health if she knew if any of the appeals ever got approved and she honestly replied "rarely, I am so sorry".

The really annoying part is that they are lumping two completely separate health issues together because they can be construed as both being neurological. (I had brain surgery back in 2008 and then this last October I when to a chiro because my neck and back were kinked up from stress at work...)

It is the ONLY thing keeping me from being able to quit my job which is the primary reason I have health issues to begin with. Talk about irony sad

at least you can get independent insurance. i was born with a preexisting condition and am therefore ineligible for all insurance that is not part of a group or given to me through ss.

dude anytime i get seen by my prosthetist for any reason, i get a packet of paperwork to fill out regarding them wanting to sue the profanity out of someone else to pay for it. and every time i skip the whole thing and write in that it was the result of being born and if they send me this fking packet one more time, i will murder their children. the next time they send me one i'm going to go into intricate detail on how i would murder their children.

What I learned about those Packets Sarena, is that if you can check yes to anything in the first section, you're excluded, don't even bother trying.

If you have been without insurance for more than 6 months, you can maybe get on the state version for pre-exisiting.

http://www.healthcare.gov/law/features/choices/pre-existing-condition-insurance-plan/nv.html

yours is a HELL of a lot cheaper than ours... a $2500 deductible plan for just me is $335 a month.

I can only imagine sad I dread any of those packets as it is but it is rare I have to fill them out. That is painful enough.

I'm not without. I carry our group policy right now with my job but I am trying desperately to quit so that I can get this house ready to sell and clear out a bunch of crap we don't need anymore and then go house hunting back east near family. (that and there is a whole blog about what is going on at my work that compounds the desperation) I don't want to quit and end up doing something stupid like accidentally chopping a finger off while fixing dinner and end up bankrupting the family. I keep telling them that I only need the policy until BT finds a job back east that has bennies. That should only take a few months tops. I even tried for student insurance since I am taking a class right now and they don't even get back to me frustrated I am going with a broker now to see if he can help somehow. Talk about a PITFA.

Oddly enough, were I to walk into any doctor's office and have them run a complete full body medical workup on me it would come back with nothing remarkable. Apparently that doesn't matter though. Just crap from the past. sad I only want it for the piano scenario myself.

And yes Jezza I agree...

but they can run statistics and show that two "semi-related" previous conditions totally ruins the statistical likelihood that you will ever pay more premiums than you will receive in coverage/benefits in the future.

If people would only understand that the time to get insurance is when you are healthy, not when you have an illness. Insurance is for people who plan ahead.

We don't allow our insurance carriers to do this crap, we regulate them, and guess what we pay less in premiums too.

But you so called conservatives, must enjoy being rammed up the ass, all in the name of opposing Obama, so why don't we call this a benefit.

if only i had the same job from when I was a fetus, the parasite~

Seriously. Everyone is born healthy and should have made the right choice of carrier when they were born. Bad baby!

....Oh, you mean the PARENT should have been the responsible, informed one who had "coverage" for the family. The one who got fired from a good career because a diagnosis in the family now made him a financial liability,(yes this happened).

Insurance is a scam as long as it is run as a profit business and dependent on your employer.

Health insurance isn't a right. If those companies can't profit off of you, then you don't deserve insurance. You should pay for your bills out of pocket, and shop around comparing the medical services offered.

All I did was give my CC# to the college's group policy people, they put $450 on it and TADA my kids and husband were magically covered right away, no questions asked. Apparently by paying my tuition fees I was magically covered in the first place, no questions asked.

that's awful serena. it's really messed up you are thrown under the bus because a bunch of companies decided you weren't profitable.

Health insurance isn't a right. If those companies can't profit off of you, then you don't deserve insurance. You should pay for your bills out of pocket, and shop around comparing the medical services offered.

And if she's in a car accident? While she (or her kids) is bleeding out in the emergency room, should she be "shopping around" to find a place they can take her that she can afford? Health insurance IS a right, or rather affordable healthcare is. And healthcare that bankrupts you is not affordable healthcare.

Sadly even my beloved NHS back home is being privatized and they reckon it'll only be a few years before we're in the same situation as the US with health insurance companies sad

LOL @ the unprepared people who put off insurance for a few bucks extra to splurge on things they didn't need. Yeah, now you want the coverage after the accident.

Apparently you can't read...I have insurance now. I pay over $450/mo for a crappy HMO. I want to just get a policy for an emergency so that I can quit my job which sucks donkey nuts. Ultimately we are looking at moving back east and I don't know how long it will take for BT to get a new job which has benefits. His current one does not. There has been no splurging nor any accident.

If Taxachusetts counts as "back east", you could use Romneycare. Also, I think you're underestimating the job prospects of someone who knows Linux. I suspect it will be days rather than months.

Just like the ski lodge with young women looking for husbands and husbands looking for young girls, the situation is not as symmetric as it first appears.

If you know BT at all he will not be looking at Taxachusetts for that very reason...We will just visit there tongue

This is not necessarily true, a friend of mine graduated last spring specializing in Networking and Linux/Unix Admin. It took her 6 months to find a job even slightly related to her field, and another 6 months to actually get a job in her field.

I would think experience would play a big factor in getting a job in that market. I am assuming BT has years of experience, so he will have an easier time than a fresh college grad.

But we're not specifically talking about BT, just "someone who knows Linux".

Sounds like you will be eligible for a HIPAA plan after you exhaust your COBRA coverage Serena. Nevada sounds like Florida, not a great place for the uninsured/high risk population sad

The questionnaire for my work insurance asks if you are planning to have a baby/etc but then they also ask if anyone in the house is taking folic acid. lol.

Florida strongly supports indigent care at Hospitals - in that if you are uninsured, no hospital can turn you away, they have to eat the costs. Hence why healthcare is so expensive in Florida

thats being rather presumptuous of them, my daughter takes folic acid as part of her treatment, because Methotrexate depletes it, and the folic acid helps with nausea too.

of course, I'm sure they would have already asked if you have an Auto Immune disease to trip her up before that became an issue. lol
