Those are some ghetto-ass houses in the end of the video in the zoning section. What did they zone for - croatia?

I used to love me some SimCity back in college! Build up a nice transport infrastructure and lay out a ton of zoning, then cruise off to classes and come back to see how much cash I'd made before the inevitable disaster(s) set half the city on fire, then rebuild.

Was that Broderbund?

Apparently you don't pay attention.

It was an agent demo. Not a graphic demo - and they said as much right at the beginning.

Way to fail at reading comp. I wasn't talking about the graphics. I was talking about the houses. Look at them. They are tiny little shacks.

That is how things usually go in Sim City. Unless the nearby surroundings are already built up, the initial buildings in a area will tend to be the 'poor' buildings until some wealth is built up in the area and they start upgrading to better buildings. grin

I was a big fan of the franchise until Sim City 2000. Maybe this can revive the franchise, but I doubt it. Gaming has come a long way since Sim City was in its prime. They should be focusing on app stores for their new game. I don't know how many people would still be willing to pay $50 for this.

I played SimCity for HOURS back in the day. Probably more than I played the Civ franchise (thought it was a close second). I might be willing to revive my interest, depending on what the new one looks like. Though, hell, I've never even shelled out for Civ 5 (keep hearing mixed reviews on that).

Finally common ground with paul.

Sim City is an awesome concept with which for some reason I get insanely bored rather quickly. Same with The Sims. It just seems more like work than fun to me.

Civ 5 is fun, but it's unremarkable in the overall civ franchise. About the only new thing was diminishing returns on culture for larger empires so culture victories were easier for empires of 3 cities or less. But once you play Siam once and wtfpwn the AI on a culture victory there's not much point in doing it over and over again.

EDIT: Oh, and units aren't stackable anymore, so you couldn't get run over by a "stack of doom". City sieges have to actually be planned out now. It didn't really improve the game, though - stacks of doom were a crappy mechanic, but they were fun when you were the stacker.

Yeah but the funny thing is they are tiny shacks on huge lots. The lots are probably like 10k square feet but the houses are like 1000 square feet. grin

Talking about older games. I hate to admit that I still play the old Roller Coaster Tycoon occasionally. blush

There was one game I played more than SimCity and Civ combined and the name is totally escaping me now! cry

You started off with just a ship and you had to beat the other ships to claim the best island for iron / trees / etc. resources. You then started clearing the island and building your civ. Was called 1500 or something like that. God I loved that game too.

This was also an awesome game that I spent too many hours playing, and still play occasionally.
