Bought my first 120 SSD - now....

If I clone my existing C: boot drive to it, then shutdown and disconnect the old C: and boot, will the SSD be seen as C ?

Depends on the OS.
I don't think Windows can accomplish this though. (I haven't tried) But major changes to hardware and Windows never goes well, without a fresh install.

The simple answer is yes.
It sounds like you are moving from one HD to another, not one HD to another machine - which could be bad.
You also used the word clone instead of copy, so I assume you know the difference.
Oh, just remembered, if it doesn't boot try putting the drive into IDE mode instead of ACHI. The speed difference is negligible but keeps you from having to reinstall the OS.

Are you running Windows 7 for starters?
You're likely to screw up alignment and wear levelling on the SSD if you just do a simple cloning from mechanical HD to SSD.
Yes some nerds can fix it post cloning, but tbh, you're better off doing a fresh W7 install.

I'll just do the new install and hold onto the old Sata OS drive until I feel safe.

http://www.paragon-software.com/technologies/components/migrate-OS-to-SSD/
most other options require some knowledge about disks, SSDs and OSs

if you have an intel ssd it comes with cloning software and it works perfectly fine in cloning with windows 7....and leveling is fine...and after you restart simply change boot priorities however you like

Any disparaging remarks?

i dont know anything about kingston ssds
only crucial/ocz/intel
