When the recession came federal tax revenue went down which made the debt go way up. The Republicans blamed the debt problem on Obama and his stimulus while ignoring the impacto of the recession and Bush's stimulus, unfunded wars, and tax cuts.
So you are right, the Republicans didn't just blame Dems for the recession but also other stuff.
It is no surprise that you want to repeat this triumph of ignorance over reason.

The GOP doesnt have the same economic backdrop to campaign against this time.
Unemployment and growth are better than they were 2 years ago.
Incumbant republicans cant use the economic malaise to full advantage b/c that hurts them, why havent they made things better....but they cant promote the economic momentum b/c that hurts the party challenging incumbant Dems.
The public never really cares about the debt in great numbers. They care about unemployment and income growth.

What has turned people off is all the fiascos with the debt standoff and trying to gut unions and all that other stuff. Social issues have played a very minor part in it. They are turning to social issues now because they've tried everything else and it's just made their poll numbers plummet more and more.

Absolutely agreed. It was screwed up before we got there, thus that whole 9/11 thing.
To prevent that from happening again, at least from this country, Bush decided to try and pacify the country. It was exactly what he promised he would NOT do during his 2000 campaign.
However thats what he decided to do and you know what, it started to work. There are maps of casualties by province by year floating around.
Were your 20 questions aimed at my son being there a few years ago? That wasn't a secret and I openly shared that. He did his tour for a year in 2009.
Hes been back stateside for almost 2 years now.
Its not emotionally invested so much as ridiculously well informed, for the above obvious reasons.
