I actually can't find a first hand quote to the person who this is attributed too.

Lots of use of it in message boards, not a whole lot of reputable sourcing for the quote.

I saw it on some white supremacist forum hit from google. But I didn't care enough to confirm. As long as we are hating on jews I'll give it the benefit of the doubt.

It isn't true, incidentally. Having lived in a variety of places, I can say with some certainty Americans are not a cruel people, nor a sordid people. Greedy is a little more complicated. I've found Americans tend to be greedier in the voting booth than nearly anyone else, but in their personal lives quite generous.

Either that or he hasn't lived here for a while. Most people I know are 100% certified douchecanoes who are cruel, sordid, and extremely greedy.

I think it's more likely you just haven't lived anywhere else so you have no meaningful point of comparison. Americans seem like cruel greedy douches until you live somewhere else and realize that comparitively speaking there are actually a lot of good things about American people. People are bastards everywhere, Americans actually less so than most.

Japanese people are way more cruel in their personal lives than Americans. So are Brits and French people in my experience. And Chinese people, at least in Hong Kong.

If you're an old lady who just fell down the stairs in the subway, you'd be much better off doing it America than any of those other places. In Japan 100 people might walk by ignoring you before anyone helped. And then when you did get help and needed medical attention, if you didn't have any money or insurance you'd have a hell of a time finding a hospital that would admit you.

Sounds like a quote from Lawrence of Arabia.

Looked it up...

I think you are another of these desert-loving English...No Arab loves the desert. We love water and green trees, there is nothing in the desert. No man needs nothing. Or is it that you think we are something you can play with because we are a little people? A silly people, greedy, barbarous, and cruel? What do you know, Lieutenant. In the Arab city of Cordova, there were two miles of public lighting in the streets when London was a village...
Lawrence: Yes, you were great.
Feisal: ..nine centuries ago...
Lawrence: Time to be great again, my Lord.

An Australian saved my life when I was walking back to the ship (sober) I looked the wrong direction in traffic and started to step into traffic a woman grabbed my arm and told me to look out, politely too. This was in Kings Cross in Sydney, which was a pretty seedy part of town if I remember correctly, but you had to walk through it to get back to the ship.

Do you honestly believe that? I think most people look after their own interests, but Americans in general are quite generous (volunteerism, donations to non-profits, generous tippers, etc.) And how are Americans more cruel than anyone else? People are cruel, and we have our fair share of nutcases, but compared to the rest of the world Americans are generally nice and we like to be the good guy and "do the right thing."

I suppose it all depends on where you live and who your neighbors are, though.
