Boards Archive] |
Welcome to the Vault Network
forum archive.
This is not a complete archive, time didn't allot us the
opportunity to properly backup the majority of the boards
deemed "expendable". Most boards on this list have at least
20-40 pages archived (non-logged in pages, 15 topics per
page).
Popular boards may have as many as 250 pages archived at 50
topics per page, while others deemed of historical
signifigance may be archived in their entirety.
We may not agree with how the board shutdown was managed, but
we've done what we could to preserve some of its history in
lieu of that.
Please enjoy the archive.

North Korea to launch a satellite

http://www.cnn.com/2012/03/16/world/asia/north-korea-satellite-launch/index.html?hpt=hp_t2 Because clearly this isn't a disguise as a long range missile test, and the North Koreans can afford to launch a satellite because their leaders have their priorities straight. I'd say lets pull US forces out of South Korea. The South Korea of 2012 isn't the same as the 1950's South Korea. Plus North Korea can't use "The US aggressors are still in our lands!" excuse anymore, and we'll all know that their only true objective is to reunite with South Korea, but under North Korean rule. And if they do anything funny then (aka war), I don't think even the Chinese would stop the South Koreans (and maybe the US) from doing whatever in North Korea, short of nuking them anyway. And honestly, I think at this point South Korea wouldn't even want them back, seeing as how they'd have to essentially rebuild that country from scratch at this point, not to mention re-train all of the North Korean people and get them up to date on what happened while they were stuck in that cave for the last 60 years. I doubt the Chinese would want all those refugees either.

As much as I support seeing North Korea's regime changed, forcefully if necessary, we are not one to talk about financial priorities right now. Glass houses.

This will be the smartest thing stated on this thread. What NK does is none of our business, and our presence on their border contributes more fuel for belligerent behavior from them

Yours will be the dumbest thing stated on this thread. Removing our troops puts the world's 15th most productive economy, and a huge chunk of our own, at risk. It is literally our business. So... Uhm... no.

I have read many arguments that SK is more than capable of defending herself should NK attack. SK's economy is only as awesome as it is because we are subsidizing their defense budget.

I had a dream. It was an incredible dream. When I awoke, I had a huge mess to clean up.

It is time to cut off all aid to NK.

I don't see SK losing either.
That acknowledged, the attack itself would be devastating and, even if the war only lasted two weeks, it'd be years recovering from the damage. Seoul itself is within artillery range of the border.
So, uhm, no.
