That aside, a really good set of headphones with a 1/4" jack can't be driven properly from an mp3 player, they don't have enough juice, so this will allow you do it. grin

Seriously, though. A lot of people have no idea they are burning out their ears with their ipod. Noise doesn't have to be unpleasantly loud to damage your hearing, especially if it's constant for a long period of time. Listening to loudish music on your ipod for several hours a day is easily enough to cause premature hearing loss over a period of years or decades.
