Question about SLI
|
I'm running 2 gtx 560 super clocked in SLI and Im thinking of adding another card just because. Is it better to run the 2 in SLI and have the 3rd stand alone or run all 3 stand alone? Which would benefit more? Just out of curiosity.

Step 1: Take the money you would use to buy the 3rd card.
Step 2: Set it on fire.
Step 3: PROFIT! You have now gained more direct benefit from that money than you would running a 3rd GPU.

So it doesnt really benefit at all? How about running SLI or 2 stand alone cards?

SLI only gives you about a 25% performance boost over running a single card. Adding a 3rd card is just silly.

i see. What I also found funny was that some how my 2 monitors were locked at 60fps only for a while and my graphics card would bottle neck. So when I played wow it would randomly drop my fps like 20fps :/ then I found out that in my nvidia control panel I could create a custom profile and change the fps to whatever I like. I chose 75 which some how is now able to get my game to 100-110 fps. Wondering why though sometimes it still seems choppy though. Everything is OC'ed too. Think I might need to tone it down a bit.

SLi / CrossFire is a gimmic unless you are strictly building a machine to benchmark There's more reasons to sell an old card and get a new one than it is to just buy another old card to SLi it.

hmm i didn't think 560's could triSLI......maybe it was they can't quad sli
either way....putting a 3rd card yields hardly anything in terms of performance...typically less than 10%....cross that with the cost of a 560 which are probably still in the $180 range and it's pretty silly
sell the two cards you have for $100/ea and add in the $180 u were going to spend and buy a single 570gtx

560's in sli have really bad microstuttering ....its a problem with some cards in sli and is one of the problems making sli not worth the hassle

Sounds like you had vertical sync enabled - where the cards throttle the FPS to whatever your screen refresh rate is.
