Heh, the metal detector thing and these zero tolerance policies are kind of funny if you ask me.
It was nothing at all to carry around a pocket knife as a kid in school when I was growing up (graduated high school in 1988).
I can vividly remember bringing in my Swiss Army knife I'd gotten for Christmas one year to show my friends, and carrying it around in my pocket daily when I was in elementary school.
Years later in middle school, I remember carrying around a Buck knife folder that I'd gotten again, for Christmas.
Hell we used to play a sort of modern version of mulbledy peg in grade school with our knives, and the worst thing that would happen was if the teacher saw you throwing your knife too hard or too carelessly, she'd take it til the end of the day. if it happened a couple times the teacher would take it for a marking period or til the end of the year or whatnot...
Nowadays, I think if they caught a few 8 year olds flipping pocket knives into the dirt at recess they'd taser their asses, cuff and stuff the kids, immediately take legal custody of them from their parents and jail the kids, lock down the school, fly in DHS and ATF agents as well as federal grief and crisis counselors for the next 4 days during which the school would be closed for investigation and a thorough inspection for IEDs...

there is quite a difference between being armed and being "armed." If he just had a taser on his persons in its holster and they call that armed then its pretty ridiculous. If he took it out and was waving it around saying that he was gonna taser her unless she cooperated and they called that "armed" then that is way over the line. Either way the school has more than crossed the line in this case and I hope that the girl and her family own that whole school district by the time they are done.
