http://tinyurl.com/6uyc9xo President Obama has a new reelection problem that will not soon go away and pretty much affects every American. The ever increasing gas prices in the US have most Americans angered with the Presidents actions, or lack there of. According to a recent ABC News/Washington Post poll, Americans by a broad 65% to 26% disapprove of how Obama is handling the price of gas. Barack Obama has stated that there is no silver bullet to fix the gas price issue; however, doing nothing and being against oil at all cost, even if it means not creating jobs. This will come back to haunt Obama in a major way in 2012. There is no way Obama is going to be able to justify his actions to the American voter when they are paying $4 and $5 a gallon for gas.

You are, as usual, an idiot. More oil is being produced now in the US than ever before. More areas are open to drilling than ever before. The US is exporting gasoline for the first time in decades. Obama is no more ant-oil than you are anti-stupid.

production doesn't matter
consumption doesn't matter
the only thing that matters is the value of the dollar, which is what oil is priced in. The value of the dollar when priced in commodities is going down and will continue to do so.

It ain't that bad...just hope the IMF doesn't decide to abandon the US dollar. If that happens we're in big doo-doo.

What was the value of the dollar last year v. this year? Has it really gone down that much in less than 12 months?

Next time you hear a politician say he or she will bring down oil prices understand it’s complete [bull shit]. Americans want lower gas prices — cut back. Sell those SUVs. Ride a bike when you can. If every one of us bought 10 percent less gasoline, prices would fall fast. That’s what the candidates should be saying. We need a strong leader who’s honest, smart, courageous and willing to explain dubious associations. That’s what we need. - Bill O’Reilly on Fox News, March 21, 2008

Our domestic demand for gasoline has been dropping since 2004 for various reasons. Our domestic production has been increasing, and globally crude production has increased every except the middle east which is flat.
Supply and demand do not explain the spike in gas prices, nor does the potential standoff with Iran. The chance for a disruption in the supply this year isn't any greater than last year during the arab spring. The things that people have to consume continue to increase.
Diesel + 15%
Gas + 20%
And the non fiat-currency instruments also increasing against the dollar.
Silver + 15%
Gold + 25%
The only things going down (except Natural Gas) are things you really don't have to buy.

I wonder how much speculation plays into how much we pay at the pump. Unfortunately for the millions of people are ailing financially there really isn't anything anyone could do to help them.

Yeah but we all know that O'Reilly is a moron. And many of us know that cheap abundant energy is one of the big factors in having a thriving economy (apparently Bill doesn't know this...). The cascade effects are huge.

when you drill a lot Natural gas ends down 2 percent, stays near 10-year low http://finance.yahoo.com/news/natural-gas-down-2-percent-134028727.html but Under Obama, Oil and Gas Production on Federal Lands Is Down 40% http://blog.heritage.org/2012/01/18/under-obama-oil-and-gas-production-on-federal-lands-is-down-40/ Obama budget raises oil drilling royalties 50 percent http://grist.org/list/obama-administration-raises-oil-drilling-royalties-50-percent/ And the Obama administration has decided that they’re not paying enough. So the Interior Department’s budget includes a proposal to raise royalties for oil and gas projects by 50 percent. That means companies will have to pay 18.75 percent in royalties, up from 12.5 percent, to drill on public land. if it wasnt for oil drilling on public land gas would be $8.00 so what you are saying cuting drilling 40% is the way to lower the price as usual, an idiot

It's kinda sad that the Republican 2012 strategy this week seems to be "hope the price of gas keeps going up and stupid people blame Obama for it!"

speculators can turn a 15% increase into a 20% increase. They can not turn a 15% decrease into a 15% increase.
The role speculation plays in gas prices is highly exaggerated.
