People are such pussies. Kids throw tantrums. Deal with it.

Typical Koneg idiocy. There's no threat of a lawsuit mentioned in the article anywhere (or any news stories covering this, for that matter), and I have no idea why you think that video is incriminating. I suppose you think a 2 and 3 year old are supposed to be seen and not heard, amirite?

Oddly... the kids' actions in that clip almost exactly match the alleged plane story.

They act up, and I'm sure it got worse because they had parents and flight attendants more upset with them, but then about 3 minutes later they're calmed down.

Frankly at that age I can have my kid under control with a "countdown" and a stern voice, but these parents obviously don't have that method of time-out / punishment under control yet. And frankly, that's a bluff on a plane because what are you gonna do? The whole FLIGHT is one big time-out for them... and if you lift a finger to touch them you'll have half the adults on the plane filing with Department of Children and Families the second the plane touches down.

Bad situation... best option is to NOT freakin' fly with 2 year olds. These people said they'd flown with them FOURTEEN times before which is pretty asinine.

I didn't first fly with our kid until he was 4... then waited till he was well into 5. He travels wonderfully and behaved like a champ.

You think so? I think they would have been acting up on the plane to get kicked off. Those kids in that clip were not acting up or throwing a tantrum, they were just a little bit restless...

As I said, the amplitude was a bit lower because the stress level was lower, but the cycle seemed to end within 2-3 minutes. Some kids are just like that.

if people think the kids were being bad in the clip, they have no clue what 2 and 3 year olds are like.

my 2.5 year old has flown at least 6 or 8 times by now. we had to start flying ;ess because he was becoming a pain in the ass. or drugging him with children's benadryl. now he's finally at the point where he'll sit and watch a movie on his tablet for an hour.

My parents tried flying when I was 2. I threw a tantrum, threw up all over my dad and then fell asleep.

I didn't fly until I was able to buy the tickets myself.

I cannot imagine needing to be somewhere badly enough that I would take my 3 year old on a flight. I can only imagine how awful this would be for everyone involved, myself especially.

I have no doubt they were far worse on the plane - I just thought it priceless that they had so much difficult controlling their kids during that interview. tongue

Interesting that this discussion is coming up today. My family was just invited to Orlando next February. We'd just need to cover the flight and Disney passes (we may be able to defray some of the cost of those, too).

The only problem? My youngest daughter will be 2 years, 10 months old at that time and I live in the opposite corner of the country. doh!

Do what i did. Don't go.

I made a couple similar decisions when my kid was 2, 3. With rare exceptions, it is a nightmare to travel with a sub-5 year old. Forget the plane... there is security, there is travel to-from the airport, there are delays at the airport, GOD it can be a mess that tries an adult's patience. Yet, you're going to ask that of a 2 year old? pfffft.

I'm undecided at this point. I disagree that all travel with small children is a terrible experience, but flight is not something I'm certain I want to chance, either. The air pressure changes on descent are enough to drive some kids crazy (though she's been over mountain passes without any trouble).

I think part of what got these parents in trouble is that they steered clear of the quick fixes like baby benadryl and giving the kids electronic devices because they're good, responsible doctors. I personally have no moral qualms with these, when used is smaller measures. tongue

Well it was important for this family to have their vacation in Turks and Caicos rather then somewhere they could drive too.

children's benadryl is great. if possible plan the flight to coincide with nap time or late at night when they would normally be sleeping. also, non-stop flights are a bad thing with a young kid. letting them get out and run around for an hour in the middle can really help.

I don't think the tantrum was the issue as much as it was how long it took them to get her into the seat. The majority of the people were probably more annoyed with the parents than the kid.

It's never taken me more than 30 seconds to get my kids into a seat regardless of how they felt about it.

They probably sat there forever trying to talk the little girl into the seat.

You're bigger than them. Put them in the seat and fasten the belt. It's not hard.

I don't mind well mannered kids on a flight but sometimes when they are really little they just shouldn't be flying.
