She had her little girl a couple months ago. This is a six month size dress so hopefully it fits well!

I am going to make another this week for another friend who is due six weeks after me. Then I'm going to make a couple for myself! Not exactly like this one, but same general style (but different fabrics and whatnot). love

I love sewing. Just wish I had more time for it!

I take pics starting out too. The second one is supposed to show the fabric pattern a bit better but I can't find my camera so I have to use my iphone and, well, yeah the picture quality just isn't there!

your pattern should also have grain lines on it, this prevents it from shifting sideways once it has been washed. I know a lot of seamstresses that don't bother with this small detail because they want to get the most out of their fabric, but having a seam shift from uneven shrinkage makes it look weird and wonky. If you were wearing the garment yourself, it would feel uncomfortable.

Edit: and I love the fabric, it's such a pretty yellow, which is difficult to find.
when my daughter was little, simple dresses like this were preferred over the frilly ones, a lot less itch!

The pattern does have a grainline, but I didn't trace them over when I traced the pattern. I did follow the layout though. I also always pre-wash my fabrics.

I agree about the simple dresses too! Another change I made to this one was to include a lining in the bodice as opposed to just a neck facing, and I took extra care with the seams to make it as comfortable as possible for a little one.

Thanks guys! happy

that you didn't trace them over was my point, you should so you can be sure to always get the pattern on the fabric straight. It doesn't matter if you pre-wash fabrics if you don't sew them with the grain as the pattern shows they're going to drape weird, or have uneven hems.

For most fabrics you can eyeball that you have the pattern straight on the grain, but it's a good habit to measure anyway. Especially if you end up wanting to make the pattern on an odd sized piece of fabric that you have to adjust placement.
