California had gone from the best state in the Union to one of the worse. At the same time it moved from Conservative to Liberal. Union greed and willing Democrats completed the decline. Now the state starts to look more like Greece than America. If the other stated don’t understand how this came about they are doomed to follow. That is; if the Federal Government does not collapse first. http://www.city-journal.org/2012/cjc0306sg.html When private firms don’t provide good services, consumers have choices. When city governments fail to perform adequately because they have squandered their budgets, residents are left waiting, hoping, and eventually moving. As an elected supervisor in another beleaguered California county once opined: “County government is becoming a pension provider that provides government services on the side.†That’s true practically everywhere in the once Golden State. In Stockton, the results are plain to see.

It's represented by all democrats and according to eopdunk.com a majority of people living in San Joaquin County voted for Bush 53% to Kerry's 46% and 55% for Obama to 44% for McCain, but that's the county not the city itself which I can't seem to find. http://www.epodunk.com/cgi-bin/politicalInfo.php?locIndex=10934 Edit: And only 64% of the eligible population is registered to vote of which 42% is democrat and 38% is republican.

Why do you keep bringing up this stanky red herring when it has been debunked the last few times you've thrown it out there? Both about the state overall, and a few specific munis you keep tossing out / weighing in on, like Stockton? Is this the kneejerk Cali reaction? Toss out blatant crap and wait to see if you get called on it? Isn't Cali your back yard? If you want *any* credibility beyond the goldfish gif, you really should have some clue about your own back yard.

I was talking about who it's represented by, not voter registration.
You'd also have to look back over the past couple decades to get a good picture of who was responsible for the pension funding choices they made.

We already have some Greece like states...permanently slow economic growth, below average education and dependent on continual handouts from richer neighbors (such as california)....the deep south has been this way for a long time and the fisto's of the world cant seem to grasp it. Fisto is warning us about how horrible it might be if the rest of the nation were richer and better educated. Thanks for staying on top of things fist.

Hey - I gave you an easy fish to fry on this a week or so back. Don't go get some big ego about it.... Outside of the two population centers California is as red as raw beef... It's hard to keep up with which particular city/county in the middle of nowhere might have going on politically... Safe bet is though if it's not in the LA region and it's not in the San Fran region, it's prolly red. 9/10 that's true. grats on finding the exception!

1. The entire state lesgislature isn't held by dems. Dems have about 60% of the seats. Which corresponds pretty well to partisan affiliation in the state. Due to persistent partisan gerrymandering (supported by both parties) this hasn't changed much over the last 20 years.
2. The California republican party has fallen on hard times recently. If you look back over the last 10 years at statewide office you see there is a lot of partisan churn. Half of the last 4 governors have been republican and half democrat. If you go back 20 years it is more republican than democrat. Other statewide offices are similar.

You nuts really think spending is partisan? Yes, both sides do it. The Republicans took a lot of heat for it and "say" they have changed. The Democrats are still out there demanding more. At least we should get on the same page. Big spenders are bad no matter what party. This is not a "points" issue. It is our way of life that is at risk.

Read the chart, there are 3 million more registered voters then there was in 1995. If you do that math, there are 578,000 more registered democrats today then there was in 1995. Unless you can find voter registration records from 1978, your statement is just opinion. I tried looking but the state's website doesn't have that info available.

Actual voter roll history: math = 1978 - 57% voted Dem vs. 35% voted Rep 2010 - 44% voted Dem vs. 31% voted Rep Clearly people are moving away to non registered or other party, most of the dems. Less liberals, unless they all moved to an even more liberal party. I'm guessing it's more Libertarian and Independent, which is the same as what's happening in other states.

In June of 1978 there was 5,610,357 registered democrats to 3,450,469 registered republicans. In January of 2012 there was 7,424,334 registered democrats to 5,176,600 registered democrats. There's still 2 million more registered democrats today then there was in 1978 and it's going up while repubs numbers continue to go down. I understand what point you are trying to make about the independent voters. I would imagine it was more of them being fed up with either of the parties then a changing of ideals. I can't find the chart I was looking at yesterday but each year more and more people are voting democrat then republican.

And yet even with that, the state is still less liberal than it was 25 years ago.

So in your cut up explanation of these numbers you see the flat increase in the number of registered Dems, but you don't see the flat increase in the number of Reps?

Of course I did, but as time goes on, the repubes are losing more and more voters and the democrats are growing. Since 2008 the repubes lost 3% whereas the democrats gained 1%.

Of course I did,
Can you count to potato? Over the same time period - Dems saw an increase of ~33%, Reps saw an increase of ~50%...
