Is there a inexpensive product out there that will let me continue posting here if I lose power?

Get a generator. I have nonstop power with it. Six gallons of gas last 12 hours and can power nearly my whole home.

Depends on how widespread the power outage is. Even a generator won't help you if the power is out wherever your gateway is located. You're better off with a smartphone and a data plan, though even that has the same limitations.

Actually if you have a smartphone you can post without a computer and do most all your business your computer does except for word processing, some programs, and video games. Get a smart phone I barely have time at work to check the outpost with my phone but thats cool

That one goes 4.5 minutes if you're drawing full power. 16 minutes at half power.

Almost every UPS uses a standard 12v battery. Open the case and hotwire in some car batteries.

The fact that you are inquiring about batteries to make sure you can post on a forum when you lose power to your house does not surprise me.

Most high end systems don't draw 600 watts ever. I have a fairly high end system and the most I've ever seen it draw is 350 watts and that was while overclocking my graphics card and running burnin software to test the OC. And that was with the PC, Monitor and 2 other devices plugged in. Here is what I use: http://www.amazon.com/Cyberpower-CP1500AVRLCD-UPS-Display-8-Outlet/dp/B000FBK3QK It will last me about 25 minutes of normal usage after a power failure. For me, the most important usage has been to protect my system from brownouts and power fluctuations due to lightning strikes.

This is the model I have: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16842102070&Tpk=CP1350AVRLCD It will run for 20 minutes or so before the unit tells the software to gracefully shut down the computer.

This. It's hilarious to see all the PC tech / electronics noobs who think they have to add another 200W to the PSU every time they build a new gen comp, and are sitting on some 1300W, $300 monster cause they "need" it.

Waste of money to get something that will power your computer for 20 minutes to a half hour. You just need something that works long enough for your system to shut down. Use your smart phone or tablet pc when you lose power

One of mine just powers the cable modem and router. Cause Comcast is too dumb to send a reboot signal when you downgrade your internet speed. So as long as your modem never loses signal you can keep the faster speed. I stopped paying for 20mbit over 6 months ago (downgraded to 8), but until the storm knocked out the cable and power for 3 days mid-Feb, I still had the higher speed.

What about when your computer is on and you're away from home and you have a power outage? It protects against a hard shutdown and potential data loss. Your thinking is flawed here.
