...WOULD you have voted for? Had the Republicans not been such dumbasses?

You are allowed to answer "Romney", if that's where you are going if he gets the nod.

I won't be ridiculing you. I want to know. However, I can't promise others won't jab at you.

Romney is a lot like Obama. I now think I would vote for Obama over him if a vote for Obama would guarantee no war with Iran

Democrats can't wait for the Republicans to have their candidate so that they can start claiming they are only voting for Obama because the Republican is so bad.

This was their plan all along regardless of which Republican was selected.

Can't think of anyone around today. Republicans have pretty much gotten rid of all the moderate ones. Bloomberg had possibilities.

Back in the day...the first Bush, Nelson Rockefeller, George Romney, Eisenhower, perhaps Gerald Ford. Heck, maybe Nixon if he hadn't been a paranoid hate monger. He had some pretty decent ideas.

That would be assuming the Democrat in the race decided the only way to win was to pander to the right, like Clinton and Gore did. I'd rather have an honest conservative than a pandering moderate/liberal Democrat.

I would be ok with any of the 3 except Santorum. A month ago I would have hated having him as a President, but after hearing him in person I would only dislike it.

I like Romney. His tax plan is moronic, though. I'll probably abstain from the presidential election again this year.

Romney isn't a moderate, he's a classic blue-blood republican. He is interested in promoting policies that favor wealth and uninterested in culture war. You might call him moderate on social issues but on the economy he is more aggresively pro-wealth than George Bush II was.

A moderate republican is someone like George Bush I who raised taxes when he needed to and was cautious in Iraq.

I'm not American but if I was I'd be more or less forced to vote Democrat.

So in that situation if I had to go with any of the republican candidates I'd have to go with Romney, he's the only one not showing epic signs of religious insanity and malenvolent stupidity.

and I actually like his flip flops he's a pragmatic person and he has to pander to the stupidity of the republican party to get the nod.. He'd be worse then Bush but Santorum would have you in a holy war within a week and Gingrich is just a corrupt lying douchebag.

I dont think you have one candidate worth a damn in the entire Republican party. Just scrap the whole thing ideologically and start again. Agree on the sheet as your uniform and work from there.

Well of the Dems at least Zig and Groucho answered somewhat honestly. Kudos for that.

(Moe isn't a Dem. Yuki and IMHO just took pot shots).

Modeeb... weren't you looking for SOME alternative to Obama awhile back? There's nobody in the R ranks you can stomach, knowing Obama isn't going to be displaced from within his party? Even Congressmen?

This. I think us older folks got kicked from the party when they picked Rayguns. Daddy Bush was their last gasp. Now they have to pander to the base because as you said they drove off any moderates.

@IMHO -- there are some republicans who haven't signed the 'no tax increase' pledge. There are others who have specifically proposed plans that balance tax increases with spending cuts (Alan Simpson, for instance) that is aligned with what many Dems have proposed, or co-authored.

So your answer based purely on economic policy/middle-class tax burden is a ham-handed stab... at best.

I would be for any Republican candidate that actually cared about the economy and making sensible cuts in the government and wasn't hell bent on screwing over the middle class and poor to help the rich.

The nation needs a strong and sensible Republican party to function.

Huntsman was intriguing many months ago....but it was always pretty obvious that he was never a serious contender so it wasnt worth getting invested in him.

Its hard to take moderate, sensible Republicans seriously because they are forced off into crazyland if they run for national office. The Republican party cant put forward a not-crazy candidate for federal office at this time so the real answer to AA's question is...none of them.

I'd vote for Ron Paul.

Sure he's crazy but I'm more libertarian than Republican. I would have voted for Romney until I found out he would say anything to get elected and is just a rich douchebag who doesn't understand waht the middle class needs at all.

Eisenhower.

That's how far back you have to go to find me a Republican candidate worth voting for.

Ps - Huntsman isn't a moderate. He's just not a douchebag about it.

We never had to go back in a second time. Saddam was contained. But that's a matter for a different thread.

I actually liked Romney and considered voting for him until he began his pandering. Now he just comes across as a guy who will say anything the people he's standing in front of want to hear. I strongly considered Ron Paul until I learned what a racist dbag he is, plus his policies are simply not workable in reality, as awesome as they may sound.

In any event, I'm more concerned than ever about SCOTUS so there is not a Republican out there I would vote for, at least until Scalia, Thomas and/or perhaps Kennedy retire.
