The right amount of defense with a strong economy and city-state allies. I'm trying to win a diplomatic victory on "King" difficulty and am failing miserably. My economy is either garbage or I get invaded and have a weak defense.

I've been at this for 3 days now, not much progress plain

I never have the patience... I either rock the economy hard and buy everyone off or go military and pick them off one at a time until I am strong enough to hold them all off.

I've done culture and domination on King but want to do diplomatic. It's tough and I agree, it takes a lot of patience!

I never fully got into civ, as in, I breezed through easy mode on a couple of them and became bored. Can you explain some of the basic strategy you play with and what about it you enjoy? Havn't tried it in forever.

I read King is a big set up in difficulty (played and beat it but not how I wanted to), the AI gets a lot more advantages. Basically it is going to be very hard for you to win if you don't conquer someone early or have tons of room to expand.

There is one other alternative... you spam scientists to rocket through the techs, and have a small empire which will be fending off basically a never ending horde of AI units.
