#1 annoy people with a rant. It's only annoying because I'm stating the obvious but to obtain the obvious is obviously impossible under these circumstances. I find talking about said predicaments to be quite frustrating and annoying as well, so believe me when I say I feel your pain as you read what was a pain to write.

And #2!

Finding ideals that ALL humans can agree upon, and beginning our foundation from there.

I'm not talking opinions.

I'm talking about things like food, water, clothing.

Why not make them free? Money should be used by our species as a tool, nothing more, nothing less. To use this tool more effectively, my modest proposal is to make everything EXCEPT for our basic survival needs, our use for money. That's right, find a USE for our imagination. Er, money.

This would make actual progress and development as a species much more streamlined AND it would become far more open-ended. Our lives, our work, our play - would have an entirely different meaning, life would no longer be so constricted by our most inherent quality - the instinct to survive.

We currently have how many people currently LIVING on this planet? You cannot say it is impossible to feed every person on the planet, because it is currently happening. We shouldn't have to COMPETE to EXIST. Survival of the fittest is still applicable, competition is still appreciated, but we shouldn't make all of life a struggle to survive. It should be a struggle to survive amongst peers in a field of science, of soccer, of dreams. That is what should push us as a species, not a cutthroat competition at the watering hole.

Also - free energy has been a possibility for how long now?? People talk and think of economical solutions to basic problems like clean drinking water.. They try to think of how to fix the problems that affect the poor, on the cheap. Because you know, they won't be able to afford it otherwise. We use things like this as tools of manipulation.

That is us trying to find a realistic solution to the problem that is created by our desire to separate our own existence from others. It's not realistic if we don't look for solutions through the peephole of money, territory, government. Because the hierarchy dictates such realities, our mind must search for possibilities within these constructs, so as to follow what is in the heart. The deepest truths within our hearts & souls will be forever silenced by our mind if there is no paradigm shift in how we look at/to one another.

Unrealistic, yet perfectly reasonable - feed the world.

Normally I go with that but I was going to try and be generous and propose a hard cap on population (and encourage negative growth-yes feel free to interpret that one), at least until we have successfully managed to colonize/invade other planets.

That's stupid.

You obviously don't recognize how peaceful we truly are. If we weren't, the world would not be what it is.

And this is 'first steps TOWARDS' I'm not even talking about whether it could ever be achieved.

Much like we can take the first steps TOWARDS time travel.

Both of you had retarded answers.

That's easy. Humans will only unite if faced with an external threat. Right now, we are free to bicker and slaughter each other as we like, being apex predators of every environment on this planet.

However, if a malevolent sentient species other than our own would either evolve or arrive on this planet, and rise up to destroy us, we would finally unite as one to repel the threat.

If no other sentient life other than our own exists, we are doomed to an eternity(?) of infighting. It's as simple as that. The reptillian portions of our brain along with our aggression hormones, our connection to the animal kingdom, will continually drive us to violence. It is what we are.

I agree wholeheartedly, and very well put might I add.

I still believe that if it were at all possible to achieve peace within our infighting, without an outside threat, we would start with our basic necessities. We see it as impossible right now but who knows, perhaps implementing such an idea could create a new bond that we previously had no thought of or connection to. Maybe using the foresight to appease as many of our reptilian desires as possible would give us more control/stability in a very broad, perspective-based sense.

This is totally true. If you study street gangs and how they operate/interact, you will see the same pattern emerge on a smaller scale.

Great! All we need to do then is for everyone to download SETI@home so we can find some aliens soon. Algae on Mars won't be enough, we need some Mars Attacks types.

On an even smaller scale, they've proved it with forum communities. Forum communities have a 'scapegoat', or someone they beat up on regardless of how the other person acts. However, if an external force enters, the whole community bands together to crush them, even if they pick on the 'scapegoat'.

An example would be how everyone here picks on sooz, but if someone from the Vesti shows up, it's an automatic 'GTFO'

Not following your logic, here.

As anyone winning a game would say -- "SCOREBOARD!!"

Look at how many people on this planet are currently living in peace.

And however many people that are not currently living in peace - look at how many wish to remain in that state of being.

Our peace is only dismissed because we as humans are SO peaceful that anything that is not, effects us very deeply. Meaning it doesn't matter if the statistics say 10:1, or 1,000:1, or 100,000,000:1 - relative to us, in our deepest truth, that single little 1 relative to humans can equal 100,000,000. We know, subconsciously or otherwise, if the individual loses the ability to have meaning amongst the masses, the masses have no purpose.

That is why our peaceful nature as animals goes unrecognized. We are united, but we remain in a complete disconnect with our unity. We FIND and CREATE ways to not be united. Because we have to. As DE pointed out, in a situation where a outer threat becomes apparent we will huddle together. We're only capable of doing that in a dire situation BECAUSE we're capable of doing it now.

In fact we're practicing, and we're our harshest critic. Like I said we dismiss our successes because of our failures.

But that's also showing it from the opposite point of view of what you originally said. The person from the vesti is the complete opposite of what a malevolent sentient species would be.

It's just another stupid a-hole, yet we'd all band together to say GTFO.

This is what I mean by targeting the things we can ALL agree on. Who here tolerates sooz would get a much different response than who wants a random vesti to start posting here like he owns the place?

Who likes war?

Who likes food?

Damn I thought we were already on a path to working out #2. So it isn't SETI@home then, that gets us going on the path... we need something else.

..."That is why our peaceful nature as animals goes unrecognized." This sounds like shrooms and Wicca, I don't think you meant that...maybe some sort of neural net like a... collective?

The Borg! We could be like that, all connected, unified, everyone's needs tended to, no money involved. I think we still need SETI@home, so we can steal some alien tech to do this.

Mmm. Humanity is only as good as our lifestyle allows us to be. If we do not solve the energy crisis soon, we will return to the feudal era of defending and attacking for resources, except with 7 billion people, and semi-functional nuclear weapons. One has only to look to the poorest nations to see the disregard for human life that occurs on a large scale in the quest for resources and a better life.

It will not be pleasant.

Despite what our politicians would have us believe, the most important thing for any one person is their living situation. If you're going hungry, what the rich homos next door are doing to each other doesn't matter. You'll rob and kill them for their food, not because of their lifestyle. People only start giving a crap about stupid isht when their basic needs are met and they don't have to worry about where their next meal is coming from, or whether or not they'll die a violent death tomorrow. If everyone in the world lived like a middle-class American did, we'd still find something to kill each other over. It's a physiological problem, not a psychological one.

Humanity could, at some point, overcome this through the use of technology - the technological singularity. However, one must wonder if removing aggression, desire, and ambition...destroys that which makes us human to begin with.

I truly believe that there will always be conflict within the human race. However, I also believe that if we can solve the energy crisis and escape to the stars - an infinite plane of existence with (theoretically) infinite resources - that aggression can be redirected to simple economic competition, rather than physical confrontation. I only wish I was better at the maths so I could solve it for us.

But maths are gay. So gay.

Mofo, I agree with you from a philosophical standpoint, but greed and hate will never let the human race get there. It's sad, really.

So gay.

Free energy IS possible though.. It's so frustrating to think about.

And in regards to there always being conflict, I agree. But this video of a fist fight is a perfect microcosm. It's a great example of how conflicts can be resolved through conflict - peacefully.

I enjoyed watching the whole thing when I found it but the ending pretty much sums it up. Watch from 4:05 for the jist/knock out. I like the girl at the end saying 'good fight boys' non-nonchalantly like a mother would say, lol.

I agree with everyone here, which sort of goes back to my first reply. Cap populations, conserve resources and work on getting off this rock, so we can grow our wings.

Mofo has his heart in the right place.

It's been a pleasure dis/agreeing with you guys and I hope to continue our conversations in the pantheons of epicness known as the internet. Oh wait! We're here!

I feel like humanity hit a rough patch in the sense that our technology and capability evolved too fast for our society/culture to adapt to it.

Like we were running and we sprinted a little too fast, right now we're catching ourselves with our feet. We're not sprinting as fast as we were when we sprinted TOO fast, we're not only suddenly going slow but also looking like a fool while doing so. But we're doing something more important - we're making sure we don't fall on our face.

...Or in otherwords - we're approaching the technology singularity that DE mentioned earlier, and we are in the birthing pains of that paradigm shift.

We are the pioneers of our future world, and it is up to us to make sure we go down in history as total and complete badasses.

Almost missed that.

Yeah, I think a lot of us feel like the 'crying indian' that I mentioned earlier when we think of ourselves as a whole..

I am still inspired by our potential, and I hope we can flourish more righteously in the future. Somehow.

Kinda like when you first become a teenager and start growing way too fast and everything gets all awkward for a while, start a rebellion phase.... which is more or less where I think we are as a species. We have everything to look forward to, but feeling invincible won't be enough...

If you check out some TED Talks, you will find one that talks about how to turn gaming(the sheer amount of gaming hours put in by a world population), into solving real world problems and how they have already tapped into that to some extent. I really thought she was crazy at first and she still might be but by the end of her time, I actually thought maybe she could be onto something.

Seems like you might be interested to listen to this one among many others, ( yes I LOVE TED Talks). Lots of subjects and lots of people with ideas that can, (they hope) change the world.

I don't know, I love writing but everytime I consider writing a book it seems impossible. My mind is usually all over the place so it's hard to imagine writing something that's 200+ pages of one continuous idea... I have an easier time seeing myself writing 100-150 things than a 250 page book

Then again I've never tried.

I dunno, no matter what I've gotta find any job, asap. Been rough starting from scratch in cali again after bein in hawaii for so long.

I love ted talks too :] And I know what you're talking about with the gaming / real world problems.

What was it that people were able to find the organization of better than supercomputers working on the problem for years on end, simply because of our increased spacial recognition?

Don't worry about a 200 page book. Just write stuff as it comes to you. Let the editor sort out the rest.

I actually sometimes look back on asheron's call and find things applicable.. Not just the increased vocabulary as a kid..

But looking back on it - my experience running the biggest macro chain on solclaim (not sure about other servers and what their plans / XP produced was but ours was good enough for me to say it might have been the best [Ruthless]) Basically I became the leader of the chain, well - co-leader and turned rogue leader..

I started a group at the top of the chain for people willing to commit to 24/7 macroing.

This I akin to big government helping big business.

Now, I did this not only for selfish reasons, but also for the reason that they should be rewarded if they were going to be pumping so much more XP than their counter-parts. This was LITERAL 24/7, and we'd watch out for one another when it came to getting banned. Actually did VERY well at keeping each other from getting banned. So well one time I woke up from a dream because I heard the admin alarm in the dream.

I had a character that was in the higher eschelons just leeching xp and we'd make a billion a day from vassal xp.

There was maybe 10-20 characters at the top top, Then there was 8 or 9 in the 24/7 crew, then there was about 200 under all of us.

Now, my ingenious idea went beyond just pimping the bejesus out of the already HUMONGOUS chain and making a powerhouse macro team at the tippy top... (I know I know. Lemme geek out.)

I also felt for the little guy.

It's where I started.

I wanted to make the best of getting to where I got, and didn't know what else to do except make the chain as efficient and 'logical' as possible even though it meant plucking people out of the chain and putting them at the top. This was already being done for free for leaders so I figured why not open a slot right UNDER the leaders for people willing to really whore it up?

Anywho, once I did that, I decided to start a new character. "Attend this" was his name, and I can't believe I remember that. As in dodge this. Because he never really macrod. He simply leached off of our 24/7 macroing squad!!

I announced to the chain that I was doing this, and I got all the new recruits in, and got the entire chain setup nice and neatly, and then I swore my level 1 character in and we began a journey...

Got him to 50 asap and began leaching off of my very own 24/7 fellowship.. From the bottom of the chain, all the way to the top, FROM the top. It was genius. The characters I had my guy sworn to were leveling so fast, We had the bottom half of the chain MANDATORY LEADERSHIP. MANDATORY XP ON LOYALTY/LEADER!

It was an xp avalanche of epic proportions and it made the entire chain happy. It was an unstoppable beast of a template for any chain on any server, if only they hadn't changed how XP between patron/vassals worked.

Raise the roof from the ground up, it's the smartest way. My chain was revolting while I was setting all this up because it took a good 2-3 weeks for everyone in the chain to meet up, swear in however they had to swear in, and then confirm it on our forum.. We had track of all the levels/xp and people would change spots the instant they passed their patron by a level. Kept competition going, and took the whole patron/vassal relationship into more of a communal one. Hence the reason they were angry about the macro chain on top of their chain because it was already a fierce competition amongnst everyone. Then they finally got linked together and started feeling the fruits of their labor, no one complained because it meant the 75 super low levels who weren't making any xp before are now all going to be high level xp generators! Meaning everyone that stayed in the chain with us got a huge new chain below them, and everyone that JUST joined the chain got free xp from me. I in turn gained their trust, their loyalty, their hearts, their penises, and yes - their anusi. I mean vaginas! VAGINAS! Anyway, that is my most enjoyed moment of post-macro AC, it was quite the puzzle, and had many lessons.

So... Yeah. We need more level 50s leaching off the 24/7 macroers of the world to help us out.
