http://baltimore.cbslocal.com/2012/03/05/md-gun-law-found-unconstitutional/

BALTIMORE (AP) — Maryland’s requirement that residents show a “good and substantial reason” to get a handgun permit is unconstitutional, according to a federal judge’s opinion filed Monday.

States can channel the way their residents exercise their Second Amendment right to bear arms, but because Maryland’s goal was to minimize the number of firearms carried outside homes by limiting the privilege to those who could demonstrate “good reason,” it had turned into a rationing system, infringing upon residents’ rights, U.S. District Judge Benson Everett Legg wrote.

“A citizen may not be required to offer a `good and substantial reason’ why he should be permitted to exercise his rights,” he wrote. “The right’s existence is all the reason he needs.”

A fascinating position by the government. Lets see if it works in reverse.

Why so many Mastboro? I'm a combat vet living in Detroit and I only have 5 in the house, one of those being a pistol owned by my wife that she uses for her ccp.

I just like guns. I have been shooting since I was 8 years old. I love working on them, shooting them and just up keeping them. Plus my wife enjoys shooting with me. And I would love to be able to give them to my kids when they are old enough. I'm a rifle kind of guy. I love long range shooting, i like being able to reach out and touch something from a long ways away. My wife is too. I'm getting us pistols just for fun and for a side arm when I hunt. Shotguns are mostly for trap shooting and just general fun. The rifles are for hunting/target shooting and I love to have a bunch of all different calibers. Not a 1 size fits all approach. I mean I was the only 11 year old in school when kids were reading comics and stuff, I was reading gun magazines and things. Teachers always gave me weird looks. Was kind of fun. Its gonna be a family thing for us though.

Besides never know when the government is going to say no more buying firearms. I'll have plenty set aside, with plenty of factory ammo, and plenty of supplies to handload my own for a long time if I need to.

I got about 10 right now. I have got rid of a few sad which I regret today but it is what it is. I know quite a few people with 20-30. I know one guy with 3-4 huge safes full. I mean this dude has almost an entire 2 car sized garage full of fired and unfired brass and 2 closets full of just powder lol. He has 2 50 bmg's which were freakin awesome to shoot especially with 3000 dollar scopes on em. He has some illegal AP rounds but it was fun. Dudes wife cheated on him and divorced him he told her should can take everything, his retirement, money, house blah blah but you aint taking my guns. Hes one of those older guys that are just set in his ways, mouth like a sailor kind of guy. Heck of a nice guy though. I dont see how people cant like guns. Id rather be out shooting in the mountains all day long than just about anything.

Nah Id never fire at a person unless my wife/kids or myself are in danger. In which case you better run damn fast and shoot pretty straight because your arse is mine up to 1000 yards. Anything past that who knows.

I live in california though, the gun laws suck here because of the crime rate. I wish I lived in another state where that crap didn't matter. Not that I own illegal weapons or anything, but hell Id settle for just being able to use my 30 round mags for my AR. Which are illegal in california.

Pistols for wife and I
Saiga-12
ar-15
assorted 22s.
I'd like to pick up an M14. Might settle for an AR-10 though.

If it gets bad enough I need more guns than that, there should be plenty lying around.

The Korean ones are regular M1s I thought.

Or are we talking new production? I'd pick up a china girl (norinco) M1A if they were legal to sell in the US. Need to find a Canadian to smuggle me one in.

That's the difference between "may issue" and "shall issue".

New Jersey is a "may issue" state with respect to concealed carry - which means that you must provide a "good reason" to get a permit - and of course, there are no good enough reasons in NJ.

Pennsylvania is a "shall issue" which means that unless there's a good reason for you NOT to have a permit (prior conviction, domestic abuse history, etc.) then you can get a permit to carry.

*edit* and yeah, I have some guns and stuff and ammo and whatnot...

i'm pretty sure it's old crap. i deleted the relevant correspondences because i prefer to buy a new one.
there is a govt program though that will sell these surplus to citizens, if you're interested.
i deleted that too, but i recall that it was more interesting than the imports.

i prefer to spend a bit more and hope that the quality is better. i doubt any of these are huge bargains.

Regarding the bold, it's called the Civilian Marksmanshp Program (CMP). Through the CMP you can get a surplus M1 Garand and some other rifles. It requires that you are affiliated with a CMP member gun club though, in general not very difficult to participate in the surplus sales program...

Bonk in his continual struggle to adopt whatever viewpoint is trending highest AT THE MOMENT, has hit upon the argument of the folks who really want guns banned, but who make these so-called concessions in the form of onerous regulation and cost prohibitive caveats with the knowledge that such measures will in fact curtail gun ownership.

gungrabbers_in_disguise posted:
Sure you can have a gun, I have NO problem with you having a gun, but you have to pay a whole lot more to do so. Why the fees you ask? well the fees of course cover the costs of training you in our official program which is another condition of ownership... oh and your certification for safe handling will need to be renewed every year, at a fee of $100 per gun you own. Those fees will help to support our administration of this national firearms owner, er... I mean national firearms SAFETY training recipient database blah blah blah blah...
