I certainly do. If not, maybe they want to cover children?

Much cheaper to cover birth control pills than make me pay for the welfare these unwanted kids cost me. Plus some women need it for other medical reasons.

Each person gets to decide whether they use the coverage or not, not whether the coverage exists in the first place.

What would be next? No coverage for blood transfusions because some sects of christianity think they are a sin?

Keep your religion where it belongs, in your heart, and out of everyone elses business.

If you mean whether their plan covers prescription drugs then sure. Otherwise, I don't understand why you would want to start micromanaging an already overly complicated industry.

That's exactly what I mean. People should be able to purchase whatever coverage they want. Mandating coverage is what started this whole mess in the first place, and it's only going to get worse.

My parents could have done a number of things to prevent my conception: condom, the pill, abortion, etc.

But which ones should be paid for? All?

Thing is, birth control is just plain common sense. The easier it is too access it, the less problems society will have with poverty.

I wonder what liability that opens up the health care provider to though if they give you condoms and you bang a chick and she gets pregnant anyway.

and dont tell me about how it says they arent 100% because in this crazy world of litigation I bet somebody could sue anyway.

That should be up to the company providing your insurance. If the Catholic church, as stupid as I think their belief is, does not want it as part of the policy they provide to their employees, then that is their right. If an employee does not like it, they are free to purchase an individual policy or seek employment elsewhere.

There is this little document called the Bill of Rights that protects religious freedom. IMO the Catholic doctrine has no basis in scripture but they still have the right to have that belief and the govt doesn't have the right to tell them they can't have that belief.

One of the few things that I appreciate about my insurance (although I've yet to use either one, my husband had a vasectomy that was covered by the insurance) is that it covers birth control AND abortions.

If their "belief" included slavery would we have to let them own slaves?

Look, most of you people don't know the facts of this "issue". Contraceptive coverage is mandatory for all insurance policies and has been for decades, what changed recently is that it was mandated as preventative care, and as such, it has to be offered with no co-pay. That's it.

Yep, contraceptive coverage has been mandated as something that health insurance must cover in this country for longer than some of you have been alive.....even the health insurance offered by churches (if they offer health insurance to their employees).

20 states have mandated it be treated as preventative for years, yes even for churches, and guess what? It's CHEAPER. Policies cost less in those states and insurance companies make more money off of them. Seems not having to pay for unwanted pregnancies and/or children saves money, who would have thunk it? shock

I know everyone here is all about "FREEEDOOOOM" and crap, but reality and logic rears it's ugly head between your opinion and facts. We don't let companies sell products that will hurt you, we don't let hospitals decide they aren't going to treat you because you are the wrong color, we don't let people throw rocks off of bridges onto your car because god told them to. There are rules and regulations for everything because without them, some bastards would have killed most of you by now. Health insurance has to cover your health, all of it, even the "dirty bits". That's what we decided as a country decades ago and it isn't going to change now, no matter how much some people want it to.

Reproductive health is important. Women die from getting pregnant, women die from diseases that can be treated by the very same pills that prevent pregnancy, many women (millions of them) benefit from taking bc pills in myriad ways other than simply not getting knocked when they don't want to do so....and women are going to get those pills despite the "moral outrage" or "Libertarian gun slinging swagger" of the minority.

Trying to frame this "issue" as one of religious freedom is silly. It has nothing to do with religion. Anyone is free not to take the pills, not to even fill out a Rx to get them. That is their freedom, it's total. No force involved, they are free to remain bc pill free forever and the entire might of the military and local law enforcement will fight to the death to see that it remains that way. What those people aren't free to do, is keep other people from having access to those pills, anymore than they can keep them from getting insulin or chemotherapy.

Preventative care saves money, saves lives, and helps everyone live a more healthy and fulfilling life. If your religion is against that, your religion is stupid. (IMHO of course).

The supreme court has already determined that religious freedom is not absolute. There are "religions" that allow multiple marriages to eight year old girls, and that doesn't mean that we have to allow that. Romney's parents left the USA (love it or leave it, commies) because of "religious persecution" because US states had outlawed polygamy.

This isn't about religious freedom, however. Never mind the fact that this is about secular non-profits associated with specific religions rather than the religious organizations themselves, which are exempt, or that Obama granted a more generous religious exemption than most states (including Massachusetts's Romneycare) by allowing the insurance providers rather than the organization to pay for contraceptive services. No, this is all about allowing secular corporations and insurance companies the ability to take a broadly-defined "moral objection" -- in other words, to dismantle Obamacare by changing the definition. Any type of coverage by any type of organization could be deemed "immoral" and the provider would not have to include it -- including the whole damn concept.

I'm sure you s**theads on the right are already aware of that and are cheering it, but don't drop off the kids in my cereal and call it chunks of chocolate. You ARE going to lose on this. Get used to it.

Yea while we are at it, let's get rid of Social Security, Equal Opportunity (discrimination laws), Unemployment Ins, Worker's Comp and any other law or regulation that interferes with profit, oh and axe all holidays and the 40 hr week too.

That way we can be paid in gold at the end of the working day.

Oh and don't forget Unions.

What possible legal justification can there be for requiring an employer buy bulk health insurance ?

If all they did was paid the employee what they are worth and let them shop for it themselves, the whole thing would be cheaper and easier.

Lots less waste, too.

Right now there isn't anyone forcing people and you are hard pressed to find a job around here that even offer it. 90% of the jobs I see posting pay $12 - $14 on average with no benefits. :\

These are jobs that require a 4 year degree and experience in the field. Sure, they aren't rocket scientist jobs but they are jobs that take a bit of skill and knowledge.

The law requires it if you have over a certain number of permanent employees. The requirement has driven companies to not hire so as to stay below the minimum and to employ people through temp agencies or hire them as contract workers in order to avoid the requirement. It's ridiculous.

There's no reason why a company has to waste money paying internal HR people to specialize in "health care for our employees" just to take care of all the insurance gunk a company is required to do. I'd let them do it if they want to, but the whole industry would be better run if everybody just got to choose and buy their own.

That isn't true and I can prove it.

I am less than a 10 person company and I pay for insurance, (required by Hawaii law for any employee that gets more 21 hours a week three weeks in a row)

Our insurance carriers are regulated by law, they all make profits, but they can't pull the same onerous crap that they do on the mainland.

In fact I pay the same group rate that a firm with hundreds of employees would pay.

Unless the Insurance companies grab your penis and stick it in some woman's vagina, I don't see how they are responsible for paying for your kids.

Now, I believe in Birth Control being cheap and available to all. The earth's current situation and the amount of unloved trash running around the planet causing crime and such is a prime example of why this needs to exist, but I don't see forcing it into Health Insurance as the answer.

In Hawaii they will proscribe Viagra but they do not subsidize with a co-pay.

If you looked at the list it is the Repub states which seem to pay more, because they don't mess with companies, who are more valuable than people.

House OKs Job Training Bill with Faith Provision
By Joanne Kenen | March 2, 2005

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - The U.S. House of Representatives on Wednesday approved legislation on job training, despite Democratic objections to a provision that would allow faith-based programs to use religion as a hiring criterion.

The legislation, approved by a 220-200 vote, builds on a 1998 law that consolidated many job programs and turned them into grants to states. That law simplified job training for many by creating "one-stop" career training and employment centers.

Similar legislation bogged down last year after Senate Democrats objected to the House language on faith programs.

Mostly Republican supporters of the bill -- which consolidates three major adult job training programs and updates other employment education programs -- said it would make worker education more efficient and let states use resources more wisely.

"The backbone of a strong economy is a well-trained and highly-skilled workforce," said Ohio Republican Rep. John Boehner, chairman of the Education and the Workforce Committee. "It is absolutely critical for workers to have the education and skills necessary to adapt to new opportunities and move into higher-wage jobs."

The United States spends about $5 billion a year on job training, with roughly $3 billion spent on these three adult programs, a Boehner aide said.

The White House backs the bill and President Bush has spoken in favor of the faith-based language, which would permit groups to consider a potential employee's religion.

Most Democrats opposed the bill because of that language but a bid by Virginia Democrat Rep. Robert Scott to cut it out failed.

Democrats said the measure was a step backward to an era of discrimination and was unnecessary as faith-based groups can receive federal funds for job training as long as they do not discriminate in hiring.

"Employment discrimination is ugly," said Scott. "You can put lipstick on a pig but you can't pass it off as a beauty queen and you can't dress up 'We don't hire Catholics and Jews' with poll-tested semantics and euphemisms and pass it off as anything other than ugly discrimination."
