During the snowstorm in MA 2 days ago I jogged for about an hour through fields of 6" untouched power in a pair of five fingers. If you ever want to feel alive, do this! Your feet will feel warm after the first mile or so, and you won't get frostbite as long as it's not too cold (it was 32 that night).

No thanks! Does five fingers count as barefoot?

It doesn't sound like you were truly barefoot. But yes, it was not uncommon for me to make a 100 yard dash to the mailbox barefoot in the snow.

Five fingers are pretty close to barefoot, close enough that real barefoot doesn't feel that different. The FF add some protection, I wouldn't want to step on glass or a sharp rock barefoot.

I used to always shovel my car out in the mornings before work barefoot, wearing shorts and no shirt when I lived in Chicago.

Figured, why get everything all wet? I'll warm up when I'm done, and I got done a hell of a lot faster that way. Serious btw. Standing in snow up to your waist in nothing but running shorts gets you going. It's provocative!

Haha yeah, now I have to go find the pic! High school friend had a hot-tub outside... got a body rush jumping out of the tub into the snow, somewhere around here I have a pic of me running through the snow in my swimsuit with a trail of steam. I'll see if I can dig it up for giggles.

Couldn't find the pic I was thinking of, instead found a different one (keep in mind it is from the 80's lol.... and yes I have a muppet mouth tongue )

Hotubs in winter = run to tub in bare feet. Sit in tub, get too hot, and then cool off in the snow. Then you're cold so you get back in. Rinse and Repeat.

So cool pic Ocura, and 'yes' to the OP.

Here you go!

The sole is made by Vibram, the same company that does the Five Fingers. It's a little thicker though, more like the VFF Trek Sport sole.

thinking would look ridiculous wearing one of each though. not that i'm above doing that. i would totally do that for swimming.

Actually it doesn't, just a really neat tingly feeling when you get back in the tub.

Haha Dunes, I haven't done it in years but it was def the way to go when tubbing.

Ugh those "shoes" drive me nuts, ocd issue with socks that have annoying lines across the toes etc... never mind feeling like every toe has a wedgie. Boss I had at the office i was working at wore them all the time, was like nails on chalkboard seeing him walk around in them.

I never understood people who wear thrm at work, especially in offices. It's pretty much the ultimate non-appropriate shoe.

i was thinking having the use of my toes would help me with balance and stuff like it does when i'm actually barefoot. but then i probably wouldn't because of the sole so it wouldn't matter.

The worst for her was sports. Early morning soccer killed her. So cold. Nothing helped warm her up. She'll be 30 this month and it does seem to be better.

Never have run barefoot in the snow but I have stood in it barefoot just to cool my feet off. And in the snow we had yesterday I was walking around in it in nothing but my sandals. Very happy feet!

Now that's an awesome pic! Hottie in the snow!!

I've only made small dashes barefoot in the snow - I can't imagine doing an actual "run" barefoot in the snow. That's crazy right there.

Yes I have and I was really bare foot. I lasted about two miles. The only reason for the second mile was because of the desperate run back home. I grew up in Vermont and was on the cross country track team. So the first good snowfall we had I got a swelled head and thought I was stronger than the elements. So with just a pair of shorts on, no shirt, and no shoes I went for a run. I was lucky I didn't get frostbite.

Living in the Alaskan wilderness is pretty awesome. You could disappear and nobody would know for a year or two.

i'd def be down to try shoes like that if i could find a way for them to work with a prosthesis that has all 5 toes shaped on the top part but all clumped together with no space.

Here you go!

The sole is made by Vibram, the same company that does the Five Fingers. It's a little thicker though, more like the VFF Trek Sport sole.

I have the merrell pace gloves for women, really like them. Couldn't quite go all the way for the toed shoes, but these feel like wearing pretty much nothing. Love them, can't wait for the weather to get better so I can wear them all the time.
