The instructor gave me a C on the final because she refused to accept that "<>" meant the same as "^=".

Yea, it happens. Some people are simplistic enough to be taught one way early on, and then refuse to accept that there are other answers or ideas that are just as correct.

To get straight A's at times you must forget taking moral stands in class and just kiss the teachers ass to get that A. Also the straight A students I knew would always drop the classes with the REALLY bad teachers in college.

It's a combination of this and the desire by many educators to have power in their otherwise disenfranchised lives. Educators often pride themselves on being open minded, but the reality is, especially when you get to college, that they are absurdly rigid and parochial. Most professors are open minded about the ways that they will accept students' kowtowing and adulation, and beyond that, it's their way or the highway.

I once dared a teacher to give me a B. I had earned an A, but there was an extra credit project i did not want to do. He said if you do the extra credit project I will give you an A. I told him I did not care about the grade. This was in my graduate Education degree. He gave me a B plus. I didn't care. I graduated with high honors- so what?

Statistically speaking, 34% of all statistics students experienced the same thing. But you didn't get an A, so you can't refute my statement with any credibility.

I don't see why a symbol matters. If the concept and context is correct it could be a picture of a cow, it doesn't matter

All of my shown work was correct. My complex answers were precise in every way except I used a "not equals" symbol that the instructor wasn't used to. There's no way you could fail to realize that I had the right answer unless you were being belligerently obtuse intentionally.

I should have gotten 100% on the final. I had every answer right for exactly the right reasons.

I got one hundred percent in my first physics test in college. I had every answer right. It was half objective on top and half problems on bottom. The objective ones I had all right. Every one. And on the bottom I believe I had all the answers right. But he gave me a ZERO. Now I'm pretty sure he gave me a zero because a 1 percent would have been like a 60 because of the curve.

I asked him about it and he said he could tell I read ahead in the book and he had specifically told us not to. I dropped out of physics and started business classes instead. That one moronic professor probably cost the world untold advancements. But I'm probably doing better than I would have been had I finished. I should go find that prick and tell him thanks. Before I dropped the class I talked to the dept head and he said "Sorry that guy is a marquee professor here I can let you drop it and not take an incomplete but there will be no refund and that's the best I can do. I know he's a prick."

*EDIT* Also he was the only person who taught first year physics at that school.
