So apparently, NK is going to let inspectors in for McNuggets.

This is their usual MO. They rattle some cages to get free things, let the dust settle, then repeat.

People in CNN's comments sections are seething that Americans will have to send their food to those damned koreans.

That's AMERICAN food that belongs in AMERICAN bellies!

feed and clothe the homeless before you start sending food to the commies...

I say we send our garbage over there and let them pick through it. People throw away some pretty tasty stuff.

I think they for got it's the US tax payers send the food!

Yeah, North Korea needs to feed their million man army somehow, and they ain't forging enough Benjamins to pay for all that nuclear material which they'll sell to a random terrorist a few years down the road.

I bet the nuke inspectors get kicked out within 6 months to a year.

Once the USSR collapsed, N.K. was in serious economic trouble. In the wake of the flooding of the mid 90's, N.K. lost epic proportions of food resources, current crops, equipment and arable land, they had no food and no money to import food. Without food aid from the US (via UN programs), N.K. would have collapsed.

Using their nuclear program as a negotiating tool for more free food is about all they have had since then, and they rattle that old and busted sabre to keep their people fed (although the most and the best food goes in quantity to the higher up folks because, well, starving peasants are pretty weak and not very good at revoltion).

I know this is commie talk, but isn't it better to send food to starving people than bombs?

We produce enough food to feed the world 2 or 3 times over.

I have no issues feeding the hungry anywhere in the world.

The best thing that could possibly happen for NK would be a chinese 'intervention'.

So why don't we do a little nation building there again?

If it's sposed to make us feel better to drop a few pallets of food off and let their military/leadership take it all and screw the people are we really doing the right thing?

This is a pointless exercise.

They will pretend to play nice for a few months than go back to their posturing and sabre rattling and the entire process will begin again.

All we are doing is enabling their regime to continue brutalizing their people (at our expense).

NK has no intentions of actually following through on any agreement they make.

You know, this is the biggest issue I have with giving food to North Korea. How do we know that it's going to help the people who are starving, and not just go right towards the military and the political elite? It's not like they're going to let the UN/Red Cross go in there to distribute the food themselves.

I'm all for helping out people who can't help themselves, but not if their leadership is monopolizing all of the stuff for themselves and their buddies.

EDIT: And the other sad part is, the North Korean government is going to outright tell they're people "It's the US's fault why you're starving and suffering! Blame the US, not our inept leadership skills!" And because they have no CNN/MSNBC/Foxnews, the people are going to believe it...
