It's already been said in a couple of news articles or radio stories that if Romney loses his "home" state of Michigan that things will be looking very grim for him indeed. And, as has been said, it's not that either of them really have much of a chance against Obama. Right now, it doesn't really matter if you are Democrat or Republican -- the 2012 race isn't really much of a race since the Republicans don't have one outstanding candidate and the Democrats are perfectly happy to let Obama roll right through November. This board ought to get more and more interesting as the months roll by - our resident poli-tards will continue to try to convince the masses that "their" party is the smart choice.

I agree with that. 24 hour stations need and often create controversy. But you do know it's possible that some people are genuinely concerned with him, right? It's not *always* the media manufacturing it. We live in a country that is shallow enough to think Obama isn't a citizen. It's not out of the realm of possibility that some people out there are concerned with his religion or his political flip-flopping. A simple Google search or trip to an opponent's rally will show that.

It is reasonable to conclude that a larger percentage of adamantly ultra-conservative republicans participate in the primary than do in the general election. That causes the voting to skew towards the more extremely right-wing for the purposes of primary vote-counting. I believe that almost all of this "Not Romney" business is caused by it. Rho

A LOT of Democrats are voting in the Republican primary in Michigan. All of them for Santorum.....which is funny as hell. As close as the race is, they might just be enough to put him over the top. Gawd I hope so. This is the most entertaining primary I can ever remember. Mittens, frothy anal discharge, and Dr. Strangelove.

It is looking like a very strange outcome actually. Santorum might get 2 more delegates than Romney because Romneys votes were concentrated in the urban areas and he won them with a higher overall percentage in each district than Santorum won his. In essence think of this like if you had a presidential election and one person won the percentage vote and the other won the electoral college. Nobody is really going to analyze it that way really -- they will call this a Romney win -- or more a Santorum loss with a few stupid comments and a poor debate showing.

it's ok to be open as long as everyone still votes for who they would vote for president. i guess you can't trust people.

I agree with this, but I don't exactly understand your process. Here only party members choose the leader at a leadership convention.

I used to think this too, but why is it a requirement that parties be involved in a public activity. Isn't in California that made the primaries open and then the top 2 vote getters, regardless of party compete in the general election. Why should the public pay for activities around the selection of party candidates?

I want a candidate who will be fiscally conservative and socially liberal. Which one would that be? Obama, or Romney?

The party system is set up to never have such a candidate. Closest thing to it in recent history might have been JFK -- but he was merely fiscally moderate.
