Not just southern.

And it's usually just put on the jelly side, to keep the bread from getting soggy.

I've never known anyone that does that.

I like butter and peanut butter on Ritz or Saltine crackers though.

Butter makes bread soggy, sorry your reasoning is invalid.

I thought so too at first, but on second thought if the butter was cold and the bread was not warm at all a decent coating would keep the bread from getting jelly soggy for a bit. Reasoning is sound temperature and timing is questionable.

No it doesn't. What may be misleading you is when hot toast melts butter and gets softer than it was when it was toasted cripsy. If you spread butter on cold bread, it makes a grease barrier between the water in the jelly and the dry bread, keeping the jelly from soaking into the bread.

If i make a peanut butter sandwich i put butter in it. Cant comment on pb&j as they are revolting and shouldnt be eaten by anyone tongue

Sandwiches in general require a little butter to wet down the bread, but then i dont put mayo or anything on my sandwiches. In Britain we put butter in our sammiches before anything else.

You do know that "Limey" is an Irish word used to describe the English specifically? And the act of putting butter in sandwiches is a British thing (the British Isles also including Ireland)? So no, it's not a "Limey" thing.

When I was a kid I would eat butter and peanut butter sandwiches sometimes. Yum! :P
As an adult though if my mom is ever making hamburgers she tries to butter the buns all the time. I have told her a zillion times I don't want her to put butter on the buns but she still does it. So then I have to put mayo over the butter!

I will lightly butter buns only if the buns are going face down on the grill for a few mins.

Well sooz, when you get right down to it, the people in the British Isles are just descendants of the French that could swim.

I was probably 20 years old when I found out that butter on a sammich wasn't normal. My mom has always put mayo on one side, and butter on the other side.
