First edition of George Orwell 1984. They should sell it for charity or something.

Its most likely valued at 5 bucks due to its condition and any markings the library has made on it.

Condition isn't too bad, but you're right it would probably knock it down to $100

Did the library label it in any way? Does it have a card jacket inside it? That GREATLY reduces the value of a book.

Libraries tend to have large numbers of rare books among their stock.

I mean while they didnt have a modern redbook of coin values -- the local library did have the 1947 version of it. If it were the 1946 version(the first edition as opposed to the second edition) I might have talked to them about it.

---

If I really wanted the book because of its edition status, I would probably call the library and ask if they would prefer a new book to the older rattier version you have.

If you are of a more deceptive bent you could always say you spilled stuff on it, dropped it in the toilet, or something and decided to bring back a brand new copy instead of the old one.

I mean they are just going to keep lending it out until it has no real value anyway and that at least gets them a fresher copy to loan out.

No card jacket just a small stamp on the inside page.
