So far I've replaced the water pump ($75 for the pump, ~$250 labor cost saved), the heater core ($70 for core, ~$1200 labor cost saved - it's a 15-hour job at least) and all four sets of pads & rotors ($210 for parts, ~$250 labor cost saved).

All it cost me besides the $400 or so for parts & a couple oddball wrenches (f'king GM) was some time and sweat (and knuckle blood). I even got to invent a few new swear words!

You are a good husband. I've seen more than one woman say she wants a man who is handy with tools lol

It is definitely worth learning to do simple jobs.

You can pick up the official service manual for $40-$50 and it shows exactly what you have to do for each repair along with detailed pictures.

I do almost all of my own work on my cars except for the transmission.

Not only saves money, but gives great satisfaction!

I wouldn't even attempt it with the wagon. Everything is so crammed in with the new cars, you have to pull the engine out to change a spark plug ffs. Plus it's warrantied for another 4 years LOL. Hyundai can deal with it.

You need to have an electronics and computer engineering degree as well to work on a lot of new cars.
