Boards Archive] |
Welcome to the Vault Network
forum archive.
This is not a complete archive, time didn't allot us the
opportunity to properly backup the majority of the boards
deemed "expendable". Most boards on this list have at least
20-40 pages archived (non-logged in pages, 15 topics per
page).
Popular boards may have as many as 250 pages archived at 50
topics per page, while others deemed of historical
signifigance may be archived in their entirety.
We may not agree with how the board shutdown was managed, but
we've done what we could to preserve some of its history in
lieu of that.
Please enjoy the archive.

A whole lot of nothing going on. It's probably 90% forest and only has a few "big" cities.

If you love the outdoors you'd love the UP. There is some awesome skiing, the towns are small, there is tons and tons of snow. It doesnt get as cold as you'd think though depending on where you live, the lake keeps things warmer in the winter, cooler in the summer.

leave one town, population less than 1000, with 5-7 bars. drive 10-20 miles- look- trees! more trees! a farm, MORE TREES! to next small town, population 3-5000, 10-15 bars. a few more miles, a few more trees, farms, tree farms, WHOA! big town- 9000 people,20-40 bars. i grew up in northern Wisconsin, about 10 mins from lake Superior. the place had 4 houses, a cheese factory, a church, a town hall, and 2 bars. the nearest town was a little over 10,000 people when i was a kid in the early 70's, now it's barely over 8000. if are not a farmer or logger, there is nothing. during teh winter, the tems vary between 5 above and 30 below zero Fahrenheit, with 2-4 feet of snow on the ground. what some people might consider blizzards were just another snowfall up there. snowmobiles were not a luxury up there, they were a necessity. the up sides were very low crime rates, (i still remember being able to be gone out of the house all day as a kid without my parents having to worry) property was cheap, not much traffic, and air you can breathe without chewing it. you could go to a market and get food you knew was fresh, and local.
