All that being said, I agree with wholeheartedly.
However some of us like to speed, the design speed for the modern road in the USA, especially in urban areas, is set more by politics and revenue enhancement rather than the reality of the speed the road itself is designed to safely handle.
The AASHTO Geometric Design book the "Green Book" is the 50 state bible for design speeds and I am intimately familiar with it.
Most interstates were designed for 70 mph, most of the tight corners are found in Urban areas of the later ones built (right of way issues), and the early ones before they had standards.

I have never once received a traffic violation or been involved in an accident. There is a time and place for speeding, usually on country roads with the top down. Not down a highly congested freeway.

Know why I speed? It's not because I'm in a hurry. It's because it's fun. I like mashing the accelerator on my sports car and being slammed back in my seat. I like doing it when there are other people around so I can whiz by them. I don't care about their well-being and I certainly don't care about the well-being of their children. And if I'm the first person at a stoplight I'm happy, because it means I get to dump the clutch, shoot ahead, and envision the angered face of the slow person behind me as they shake their fist from behind the wheel of their anemic hybrid.

As long as you aren't doing that and blocking the road (as in, I can still get around you), I don't care too much...I DO care when you are at a light in front of me, and take off at the light like my 95 year old great aunt (who still drives might I add, and quite well too).
If you do drive like that on the interstate, then yes, I do care. If you're going 10 under on an interstate, I think you need to get a ticket.
and I agree with what DE said about being at the light first...I ALWAYS pull into the lane that is empty so that I can be at the front of the line, and it drives me insane when I'm riding with someone who doesn't do that. If you are in the front, you have that one less person (in front of you) to worry about. There's not much more I hate than getting stuck behind some slow person when the light turns green and they take 5 seconds to remove their foot from the brake and put it on the gas.
and yes, I have had a couple speeding tickets...but at least I'm not the guy on the road everyone is flipping off every day :P

pretty much this. i suffer from a severe case of being trained to drive on la freeways in not rush hour. so i'm way more of an offensive driver than i should be for where i live. but fk you. i will go as fast as i can, whenever i can. my 119mph speeding ticket proves that. 
anyway, going 10 under for no reason and blocking me in by doing so will have me calling 911 on your ass and reporting that you're driving like a drunk person. at the very least, you'll get a ticket for being a jackass. ^_^

I generally set the cruise control at about 60 on the interstate. If people want to go faster, there is that handy left lane to go around me in.
I'm always amused when some idiot will fly up behind me than stay right on my ass for a mile or two, I can see them getting irate in the rear view, finally, they will change lanes and fly around me. WTF is wrong with people? It's not like that lane wasn't there the whole damn time.
It happens every single time I get on the interstate, usually multiple times, in the drive from here to Asheville (bout an hour and a half or so away). The road is usually almost empty. Never a crowd, never a time when the left lane isn't wide open, but it always happens.
Those are the funny ones. The ones I HATE are the people who you can see in the rear view clearly doing 20 or 30 mph more than you, who fly up behind you then just follow. They don't crowd up, aren't getting impatient, they just back up to a decent distance and follow you. If you speed up to 70, so do they. If you slow down to 40, so do they. It's like they are hooked to your god damn ass. I will just take my foot off the gas and coast....50mph...40...30...20...usually about there they whip around me and stare at me as they pass and speed off at around 70. I let them get a ways ahead, then speed back up. I hate being followed when I'm out to enjoy a nice slow drive.

my daughter and I experienced this a few days ago, we were driving home on a donut spare and didn't want to go over 35, so we stuck to alternate roads than the freeway and kept to the right lane whenever possible and used turnouts when people couldn't pass... even so, people were pissed off that they might have to make the effort to change lanes.

I usually drive the speed limit or 5 or so higher on the roads in town. On the freeway I drive around 10 over and people are flying past me. I am usually the slowest one (going 80mph) on the road but my gas mileage goes into the toilet at really high speeds and I don't want a ticket.

I have a big truck with gigantic cow smashing bumpers i drive what ever speed i feel like and dare people to hit me ( which is generally about 5 under except on the freeway then its 10 under because my truck is gear bound at 65 for maximum fuel milage (it will do 80 but the fuel cost is totally not worth saving an extra 30 minutes on my long run)

If you are driving 35 on a 45 road where everyone is trying to go 60 -- YOU are the problem and are causing tons of turbulence on the road and while you might not be in an accident you may well cause accidents.
Thing is though -- that could get you a ticket for impeding traffic flow as well.
I am not saying you need to go 50 in a 45 -- but at least speed limit.

The is one section of route 22 out here where the speed limit posted is 25 around the bridge and 35 for a good distance past it.
The AVERAGE speed of people going through is 53 through the 25 and 63 in the 35. When the road is going fast it is more like 58 and 68. If you were to go through there at speed limit I wouldnt give you odds on living for a month.
That is the one road where I actually do go 10-12 miles over the speed limit and I feel really endangered due to not going even faster. I avoid this area of that highway when possible.

As long as you're not doing it on a 2-lane road, I don't care. If you're impeding traffic, you're the problem, not the people getting irate with you.
If you're in the right hand lane on a multi-lane road or highway, that's fine, too. Just stay out of the damn left lane and I won't shoot you as I drive past.

You know what feels the best? When you get through a light that had just turned yellow, and all the cars behind you that didn't speed have to stop. WAHAHAHHA CYA LOSERS, THANKS FOR MAKING MY DAY!

What's even better is when you cut someone off in heavy traffic and just make the yellow light, but the person I cut off hits the red light

When I'm coming up to a light, I find a spot on the road where if I get to it I will not stop no matter what if no one is in front of me...Usually it's where the solid white lines start between the lanes. And I'm always looking in my mirror lol'ing at the noobs who get stuck at the light.

The engineering way, (sadly practiced in Europe more than here) is to set the speed limit at the 85th percentile of what the drivers naturally drive at. (this is speed where 85% of the drivers drive at or below think of a line of dots, each dot a driver, and they are placed on the line at their clocked speed, then draw a perpendicular line with 85% of the drivers (dots) on the left of the line and that point (line) points to the exact speed (in practice they round to the nearest 5)))
Unfortunately that is not the case in many parts of the USA for the reasons I mentioned already,  that being pandering politicians coupled with the revenue enhancement their respective districts enjoy as a result of foisting this vicious oppression upon us the motorists. (place obligatory comment on police state here)
I turn 55 this year and I am thinking that I should schedule my cross country tour on my m/c during this event, only I ain't gonna be doin' 55. 
If you drive below the 100mph on a modern highway in Greece you drive with your car half on the shoulder (when paved) with the expectation that you will be passed on a curve on a two lane highway, by a semi, while a semi is passing a car coming your direction as the same time, no kidding for real, happened to me.
We are an oppressed people, and like the Soviet Union of old have had to become afraid of our own Govt.
But please don't mess with my motorcycling. 
If you can't ride with the big dogs stay off the road and take public transit.
