In California you get a cheaper rate if you just pay. If you contest the ticket they charge you another 100 bucks or so and you always, always lose unless you have physical proof.

BTW, if you were speeding just say guilty with explanation and tell em why, if you have no reason, just say guilty. Usually a judge will reduce the points.

Just did this. Got popped for 47 in a 35. Took judge proof that my speedo showed 36mph when my actual speed was 47.
He changed it to "improper equipment". Not that it changed the fine any, but no points. Tickets here are all the same price, $188, except no seatbelt, which is $25, and 2nd offense or higher DUI.

I went to court over a speeding ticket and they reduced the charges (so my insurance wouldn't go up) and raised the cost of the ticket.

My experience is going before a judge is a waist of time and money.Requesting a jury trial gives you about a 30% or better chance of winning.If I'm on the jury your chances jump to about 95%.(I assume all cops are lying).

i just got my first ticket in 10 years.
dumbass on a cellymaphone was impeding traffic and driving like a dumbass.
a lane opened up and i punched it to get as far away from him as possible.
by the time i coasted past the cop i was doing 71 in a 55, in neutral.
i saw him. i knew he was after me when he pulled out and turned his lights on. i left it in neutral and moved towards the right.
dumbass on the cellphone got in the cops way as he tried to move over too.
cop was totally cool. let me keep my license and told me to go contest it in court, or ask for supervision (which is the same fine but it doesnt go on my record if i stay off the radar for 6 months).
he understood exactly what i meant when i said the idiot on the cellphone. i almost thought he was going to let me go but, cops and quotas and BS.

Pillsbury , that is alright. You fought the good fight. I lost a red light ticket I contested. In this instance never say you saw it turn red. If you enter when it is green due to your travel speed you will never see it turn red. If you see it red , then you are probably guilty.

I'm shocked at the speedo thing actually working in court though. I reprogrammed it to be massively wrong, popped over to the dealership and shelled out $40 for them to document it and program it back to right.

WOH... Dude do you have ANY idea what laws have been instituted relative to threats or remarks that show a hostile intention/attitude towards a Judge? Caution PB! I'm sure you don't intend to hurt a Judge but make that clear to the Agent reviewing IGN's REQUIRED report for your remarks.

I got pulled over for having expired tabs on the car. Never got any renewal paperwork so I hadn't thought about it. I explained that to the cop who told me that it was merely a "courtesy" that the DMV or whomever sent renewal notices at all. I get that it's my responsibility to make sure all my stuff is up to date, but I never knew that I shouldn't necessarily expect to receive my renewal stuff automatically. I would have paid closer attention if I had known. He told me to take care of it within the next couple of days and let me go without a ticket, but I definitely learned that the state has its own ploys to ensure that they get their ticket $$... stupid and petty ways.
