It's probably only really like 100k people. I only signed up twice but I'm sure most people were like intex and signed up 10+ times each.

There's seriously never a game I've felt less sense of community in at release. I leveled from 1-46 on my op and aside from flashpoints and group quests pretty much never ran into or interacted with anyone else at all. There is no sense whatsoever of a living, breathing world. SWG did a way better job of giving you the feeling of actually existing in a world with other people.

TOR's world design is a lot more like a single player game than an MMO and Yuki is right that there isn't a good sense of community.
That said, it is still a good game overall and community is often what you make of it.

If you just think of it as a single player game with a graphical chatroom (fleet) and some multiplayer levels tacked on I agree it's not a bad game.
It's not much of an MMO though.

And the fact that group content is almost all accessed from the chat hub via shuttles. It gives no sense of a world if every "dungeon" you do is just hopping on a shuttle and appearing at a disembodied location connected to nothing else in any way.
For all SWG's faults it did a good job of making you feel like a member of a galactic community. A lot of that had to do with the seamless planets and the ability for people to influence the world in ways visible to other players.
SWTOR hides you from all the other players of the game as much as it can.

SWTOR sounds like horrible game...I mean, in DAOC you could do funny stuff like make
300 lowbie theurgs, port to Emain and crash the zone with few thousand pets
I always hated restrictions of any kind, and I was often angry at DAOC ones...
just to find out that it was among least restrictive MMOs ever

Well you're the one who brought up the thing about it being set on different planets. SWG is the only game I know of that was the same way. It's also another SW game so it was using the same IP.
The point being that the IP can't really be blamed for the total lack of a sense of a living world in SWTOR. It comes from the zone and gameplay design more than anything else. Companions and linear, disconnected, instanced zones which players have absolutely no ability to impact in any meaningful way visible to other players is what makes SWTOR such a sterile experience.
In SWG you could venture out of Mos Eisley into the Tatooine desert for miles in every direction, and you'd run into massive player-created cities full of people and factories and mining equipment.
In SWTOR you go out of Anchorhead into the Tatooine desert and you can go in one direction only and you'll probably never see evidence anyone else even exists the whole time you're on the planet.
On the other hand, there was basically nothing at all in SWG except other players. SWTOR obviously does a better job of telling a story and delivers a better single-player experience.
