Pretty much this. I've bought clothes from thrift stores, misc stuff from Good Will, gotten stuff from FreeCycle, heck picked stuff up off the curb. As long as it is something that can be cleaned and doesn't have a skeeve factor like underwear I have no problem with used.

If you think my opinion is idiotic, re-read yours.
Dont worry I will give my opinion anyways.
The PvP MMO is NOT a "niche" market, Mythic is just a "niche" company.

I'm picky about my boxers, and only wear cashmere or merino.

I wont even wear my own used socks. Ick. Once, then out they go.

I'm a junk store addict, I like old stuff, I love getting designer clothing/purses for a few bucks. I love finding solid wood furniture that just needs to be refinished.

in AZ I bought a student desk for $15 at goodwill, someone had painted it with wall paint trying to make it look like clouds (lol) it looked AWFUL. I stripped the paint and old finish, sanded down the scratches, stained it and applied several coats of verithane for shine and protection and it turned out beautiful. It took forever because I sanded it by hand with sand paper and a wooden block. In retrospect, I should have spent a little money on an electric sander.

My ex was so pissed when I bought it, he thought it was such a POS and could not see the potential... but he loves it so much that he still uses it as his desk today, 7 years later.

my current desk is a $15 drafting table from goodwill, and I have tons of stuff from craigslist.

Stuff I won't buy second hand... Socks, Underwear, lingerie, anything considered a "personal" item, food, and mattresses. I've done used mattresses in the past, but these days I'm not willing to risk the chance of bedbugs.

as far as refurb items, it really depends on the item, the savings over new, and the warranty offered, or if there is an available extended warranty for a reasonable price.

I will buy most things used or reconditioned. I wont buy used clothes of any sort, hell the fact that someone potentially tried it on before me is right on the edge.

As far as electronics go I am more inclined to buy refurb than new when available. The reason is, if something fails in testing or comes back as a fail from a customer it cannot be fixed and sold as new. There's usually nothing wrong with it at that point. I've never been bitten.

Oh, and as for what I would only get in new condition? When I married my wife was new. She had ever been used before.
