Please list one reason that you would support Santorum, Romney, or Gingrich if they become the Republican nominee in the election.

I support Romney because he is the best chance we have, yet I support Gingrich because his core values are the best the republicans have

Romney has the best chance of pulling the independent vote, Gingrich is candidate that reflects the republican ideas of smaller and less intrusive federal government the best, but with his baggage the independents won't support him.. Santorum doesn't have a snowballs chance of beating Obama, the independents will simply stay home if he is the candidate.

All of the candidates are essentially the same with a few minor differences that mean nothing.

Obama, Big government, big spending Democrat, Black (sorta)
Romney, Big government, Big spending republican, Mexican
Gingrich, Big government, Big spending republican, multiple affairs on multiple wives
Santorum, Big government, Big spending republican, pretends to be religious nut
Paul, Big government, big spending republican, vagina Doctor.

Thats pretty much it as far as that goes.

I'd support Santorum over Obama in the general election because he'd be more likely to sign conservative legislation from the Republican-controlled house than Barry would.
I'm not a big fan but I see him as having MUCH less potential for damaging the country than Obama.

I'd support Newt over Obama in the general election for the same reason as above, plus Newt isn't afraid to eloquently argue conservative positions at the media or whoever else is in his face.
I worry that he'd chew through his leash and wander into some wacky areas but, like Rick above, I don't know that he's likely to damage the country anywhere NEAR as much as Obama would.

I'd support Romney in the general election over Obama because he's a solid leader, manager, team builder and guy-who-gets-things-done. He is who I would vote for in the republican primary if I were a registered republican.

Kudos for honesty.

Hell even I kind of like Ron Paul, as he seems more Republican to me than the party is overall today.

Well to be fair, the assessment of Romney is not just "not Obama". Like him or not, he does seem to be quite industrious.

I've just yet to hear anyone give a solid issues-based support for the other two(or Romney for that matter) is the only reason I ask.

Ron Paul I left out because most people that support him seem to do so because of his stance on specific issues.

I am a conservative and do not always vote republican, in fact I've voted against several republicans because I didn't think they were the right person for the job. Anyone who always votes the party line has been suckered by their respective party. I was a registered democrat until 1993 when the unitary election law took effect and I was living in a district that was likely to have more than one republican candidate in the primary and only one or no democrats running for that office.

santorum says birth control is dangerous. lol, how could you vote for that guy over obama. i would rather vote for a bicycle horn than some crazy person with ridiculously stupid ideas.

probably because he read in the bible that sex is for procreation. lol @ bible morality. he wants you to use your genitals a certain way and it's bad if you use them another way. freedoms? republican? doesn't sound like one to me. that brings us to his blatant homophobia.

I was just wondering about positive things specifically.

Any person with a substantial background in the top topics that are of immediate concern to our country's prosperity realizes that Ron Paul is the only candidate supporting the right choices.

I am polar opposites with some of the Ivy leaguers on my Facebook, yet I see even them supporting Ron Paul openly. My Facebook friends list are 100% Ron Paul supporters

Republicons are the party of neanderthals. They cannot win on the economy, which they destroyed under Bush. They can't win on national security: Obama is the one who got Bin Laden. All they have left is birth control, an issue that was settled 40 years ago. They are trying to bring back the 50's, when blacks had to sit in the back of the bus and women couldn't get jobs. Pathetic losers they are, the sooner they die off the better. And they will die off.

Yeah but with all the filibustering Republicans have been doing since they won the House, may as well re-elect Obama if you want gridlock.

I've got to give the Dems credit for managing to steer the entire national conversation to birth control when NO ONE really cares much about it, at all except as a stick to beat up socially-conservative republicans with.

This is a complete non-issue that the national press is loving shooting at the republican candidates. NONE of them brought it up.

This is why.

Updated November 5, 2010

Political Action Committee

RNC/LIFE PAC REPORT — 2010 Republican Candidates
Republican National Coalition for Life PAC supports Republican candidates who are pro-life without discrimination and who will work to translate Republican pro-life platform principles into public policy and law. For your information, we have listed the Republican Congressional Candidates whose responses to the RNC/Life Questionnaire indicate they are faithfully pro-life, and do not justify abortion for innocent babies who are conceived through rape or incest, have a handicap, or a genetic defect.

Politicians who justify the deliberate killing of an unborn baby hold a view that is inconsistent with the goal of the pro-life movement and the Republican National Platform which states in part: "The unborn child has a fundamental individual right to life which cannot be infringed." We concentrated on the House candidates in 2010 because of the sheer number of Republican candidates. Not every candidate returned our questionnaire and lack of a listing on our candidate page does not indicate that the candidate is pro-choice, merely that he/she did not return a questionnaire. A few U.S. Senate candidates are also listed, who sought us out as pro-life Republicans.

-------------------------

Abortion

The Democratic Platform:

“We will defend the dignity of all Americans against those who would undermine it. Because we believe in the privacy and equality of women, we stand proudly for a woman’s right to choose, consistent with Roe v. Wade, and regardless of her ability to pay. We stand firmly against Republican efforts to undermine that right. At the same time, we strongly support family planning and adoption incentives. Abortion should be safe, legal, and rare.”

The Republican Platform:

“As a country, we must keep our pledge to the first guarantee of the Declaration of Independence. That is why we say the unborn child has a fundamental individual right to life which cannot be infringed. We support a human life amendment to the Constitution and we endorse legislation to make it clear that the Fourteenth Amendment’s protections apply to unborn children. Our purpose is to have legislative and judicial protection of that right against those who perform abortions. We oppose using public revenues for abortion and will not fund organizations which advocate it. We support the appointment of judges who respect traditional family values and the sanctity of innocent human life.

If Republican candidates stopped wanting big government to intervene in social matters, maybe the discussion wouldn't go there. But as long as a candidate is running around yelling "Satan! Satan! Satan!" and acting like a condom or birth control pill is the anti-christ, that candidate should be treated like an irrational cultist. I guess that's the cost of the evangelical vote. So sad too bad, they pander to who they want to.

I thought contraceptives came up because of the various kvetchings about Obamacare and then it was made into a religious freedom issue.

Wasn't that the whole point of the compromise thing to alleviate this? I just assumed it was an offshoot of discussions about how dangerous the health care plan was to America and then Dems seized it because it rallies the ladies.

The Pope hates condoms, that's what it's about.

People want religious freedom for organizations that think The Pope actually talks to God.

Generally speaking, they're all gonna run the country into the ground

Their views on social issues ends up being important, since we'd all rather have rights instead of some religious nutjob deciding our sex lives or who we can love while the country is slowing crashing.

Nobody wants a socialist nutjob trying to take money and liberty away either. Socialism is basically a religion.

to be quite honest, i am not that politically savvy.

from what i have heard/read, it sounds like romney is probaly the best choice from a businessman sandpoint, but i know there is alot more to being pres that just good business sense, but it occurs to me that our "business" of government seems to be most compromised, maybe that is what we need.

and i know and have read/know very little about santorum.

i have alway thought gingrich was a ding dong.. but again wth do i know.

and of course fundamentally i don't genuinely trust any politician these days so it seems there is almost no way to win so..

who knows what evil..or good lurks in their hearts of hearts...

i just hope it doesn't get much worse and more ridiculous. flag

Romney's a sellout. Santorum is a fake. Ron Paul is the only honest Republican candidate to choose.

Romney? Please. Have you seen his latest ad buy in Michigan? The one about how he's a man of the people and supportive of the auto industry? It has a photo of him with his dad, looking over the Detriot Auto Show. Except in reality it's the World Fair in New York, and he's standing on a helipad.

I would vote for Gingrich in a heartbeat. I am enlightened enough to understand the wisdom in building moon colonies and orbiting space factories.

Lol the funny part of this thread is all of you thinking a lame-duck Barry is going to act like his first 4 years.

I support Santorum or Gingrich.

They are more true Republicans.
