It's pretty much the standard Outpost curse... the more some nub /faps to the next MMO, the more it will be some useless WoW clone that only nubs want to play.

Yeah I am getting a little worried with all the ridiculous hype. Not just from Tinkles but also from various websites. It will either be totally awesome or they're setting it up for a big fall.

it's that way it seems with all new MMO's lot's of hype and not much execution...although i do have hopes for GW2.
every vid. so far has had some great ideas..i just hope the PVP doesnt disappoint.

The big issue is how well they can balance it for huge numbers of players. A lot of games make tanks and stuff obsolete in big battles. They will have to make it so they can have a role too

I will lose what little faith I have left in the genre if GW2 blows it. I couldn't even get myself to play TOR, I am so fed up with crappy MMOs.

I'm desperate for a new game,I'm playing a cutesie game that I'd be embarrassed to be caught playing ATM (good time sink),but I don't think GW2 is going to fill that need...I hope so I'm bored as hell but I'm not holding my breath..

I think as long as the 3 factions things works (aka the 2 weaker sides ganging up against the stronger one), PvP in MMO's should be okay. I hated how Warhammer Online only had 2 factions, and if it's an 80 vs 25 fight, obviously the smaller side's not going to want to do much, and the bigger side is going to get bored due to no one to fight.
I think that's what made DAOC so fun, because the two "weaker" realms could gang up against the stronger one (I still remember days where we saw the enemy faction, and we just /waved at each other while we took out the stronger realm's keeps or armies). And the beauty of it is that the "strong guy" always changes, so at one point your realm is the strong one, then after you get beaten down (aka they steal your relics), then suddenly you don't mind teaming up with the other weak guy.
Or you could just be a jerk and kill everyone you saw lol...

They don't have firm class roles. Part of the point is presumably to avoid situations where certain class roles are vastly overvalued compared to others.

Yes, that is something I really really like. I love being able to constantly switch out roles and things like that. I had tons of lv50s in daoc to be able to switch out for whatever was needed. In tf2 I really liked being able to change class whenever you wanted. I looked into it a bit more and warriors also have ranged weapons available. So they can also be viable with a bow or gun. I hope we're not talking crossbow armsman either.
