Went on an easy ten mile bike ride in the loop in the Marckworth State Forest near Duvall Yesterday. I was very surprised to find there was snow on the ground much of the ride with there being about a half inch of snow near the highest point of the ride. Felt great! I still feel its effects today.

Mormons promote mountain biking as a way to get closer to nature and God, to help one on their path to becoming a Christian. Good luck Bonk. hugs

You dont need mountains to ride mountain bikes. Just find some interesting off road places to ride. I mostly just ride on logging roads because I'm a bit lazy. I still get to enjoy the beauty of nature.

I wish I couldnt stayed up there and read my book but my feet got really cold

Ya tons of fun places to ride that are flat. Check out your local listing of rail trails. They have some scenic ones all over the place that are gravel and go through some really scenic places

I dont like to ride on the paved bike paths near the city. You have to drive at least ten miles or more from teh city to get to good biking area.

I miss biking sometimes. Last time I went on one was with my dad when I was like 12 years old. We used to bike about 20 miles or so to coyote hills outside of fremont,ca and then back home. Once he died I never enjoyed doing it anymore.

That looks like the kind of trail I'm looking for. Most of the trails around here are single track. I did one two weeks ago that was considered a beginner trail and it kicked my bike's ass. Chain came off the sprocket. Lost the yellow reflectors off the pedals. I'm not a daredevil BMX wannabe. I don't want to ride over a ludicrous amount of tree roots around hairpin turns. I just want to ride my bike through some fucking woods. On a path that's at least 12 ft wide.

I found some off-road trails at a local park that are used mainly by park trucks. There are a few hiking trails that diverge off from it and I rode down one of them until I came to this:

I just laughed and turned around.

Mine got stolen a few months ago, didn't start out as a great bike but I put some money into it.

Gonna have to replace in the next couple months before it gets nice here.

I find it interesting that the Federal Government has paid $1.4M for access for trail right-of-way. I expect that anyone who gets harassed on this right-of-way should report it to not only to local law enforcement, but also Bureau of Land Management (BLM). The fact that the Feds have paid for right-of-way means that violation of that agreement is a Federal matter. And impeding a traveler is no less than a violation of civil rights, in my mind (United States v. Wheeler in 1920). That said, there is a bit of a wild feel to this area, and if ever confronted; smile, FULL five finger wave, and have a copy of the settlement to hand them if they'll take it.

That one sounds a little scary.

At approximately 31 miles of rough gravel terrain, Farmersville to Ladonia represents a good length for an out and back, overnight MTB trip. A riding buddy and I tackled this trip on September 24/25, and enjoyed a generally positive adventure. Highlights included seeing small-town Texas up close (Farmersville, Meritt, Celeste, Wolfe City, and Ladonia), and a strong sense of pioneering, given the relatively overgrown state of much of the trail. Our overnight stay in Ladonia revealed an unexpected gem of a town, with two good restaurants, a great rustic lodge, and even a visit from the Mayor ... who had heard a few intrepid cyclists were in town!

Mayor of Ladonia: You boys sure are a long ways from home, ain'tcha?
Biker: Yes sir! We love the great outdoors! This is a wonderful town by the way. Nice and quiet.
Mayor of Ladonia: And that's how we like it, ya hear? So no funny business with yer funny machines.
Biker: These are bicycles.
Mayor of Ladonia: I don't care what they called. You give me more lip I'll send Deputy Ankle after ya with a hose.
Biker: Just out of curiosity, how did you become mayor?
Mayor of Ladonia: How else? I kilt the previous one in a machete fight and put on his mayor suit what endows me with the mayoral power to fuck you up the butt if I be pleasin' it.
...
Mayor of Ladonia: I be pleasin' it.

A repeat of a Classic I wrote:

"To Bonkman:

Ridin' along on my bicycle seat,
My nuts below me are gettin' real beat-
Ridin' and singin' a happy song,
Hoping I don't smash up my dong.

Ridin' along and playin' a tune,
Pushin' the pedals and listenin' Zune!
Hearing the traffic as it goes past,
Hopin' my luck is gonin' to last!

Up in the mountain I am a King,
Pumpin' the pedals and and lovin' ta' sing.
Jumpin' the lumpies and spraying the sand,
Thinkin' that life is effin so grand!

Then back to the treadmill I have to return,
Hang up the wheels, there's money to earn.
Get a new job and nose to the stone,
Work and pay bills and pay off the loan."
