Subject: Any golfers around?
So, I'm generally speaking, a pretty terrible golfer, but that doesn't deter me in any way, shape, or form.

I have been borrowing a set of my uncle's golf clubs for ages now and finally want to return them and get a set of my own. Of course I am not spending any serious money, but I honestly don't know what to look for or what to think about some of these Craigs List options I'm seeing.

I've got two seemingly promising options and am seeking opinions and/or recommendations:

http://pennstate.craigslist.org/spo/2859251023.html

http://pennstate.craigslist.org/spo/2830748750.html

FWIW, I am 6'3" tall and tend to overswing like hell.

The clubs I have borrowed for several years are my uncle's. He is about 5'10" tall and I am pretty sure he's got them cut to a length matching his height (not 100% sure though). I have been told his clubs are too short for me, but in all honesty I am too terrible of a golfer to hang much of an excuse on this lol.

The seller tells me that both sets of clubs are "normal" length, but that the first ones listed are clones of a brand that runs typically about a half inch longer than "normal"...

So anyway... recommendations would be appreciated, thanks!

using clubs that are too short will often screw you but i think it matters less for irons than for woods/drivers.

if you're serious about golfing i'd pony up and get some legit clubs. it makes a big difference. my wife bought me some previous season callaway clubs and i noticed an immediate difference.

if you are set on those 2 options, id go with the steel shafts

being tall, the graphite shafts on clubs that were not fitted for you will just be a pain in the ass

Well I'm not terribly serious about golfing, but I feel bad having borrowed my uncle's clubs for so long.

Regarding the shafts, they are both steel, one set is "regular" flex, one set is "stiff" flex.

I am not particularly set on those two options, but they seem like excellent CHEAP options for me $75 for either one of the sets.

stiffer flex is designed for golfers with more club speed. going regular will probably be better for you all other things being equal.

Find a Golf Galaxy or other reputable golf shop and get a pro to fit you. Then look for something that fits. Golf Galaxy has a huge used section (the one close to me anyways) and after the pro fitted me I was able to pick out clubs that worked.

Steel shafts unless you want to spend the money on getting some cut to your height.

Being taller you will swing and the graphite will bend too much.

You will find yourself compensating for this and either being nicknamed "the worm burner" or open facing it.

When you get serious get some ping irons and then play around with various drivers and find what feels the best to you.

Steel shafts are better for making sure that they sink when you finally throw them in a pond.

That being said, why not just go to a Golf Store, let someone tell you about clubs they have "Just For Your Size of Man", then make some notes aboput how long the suckers are and then shop Craig's.

Buy a good set like that then go into a shop that will measure and put new grips and any extension that is needed.

You don't need to get all bent about it now, just make sure they are fairly current tech and the right length for you.

It's mostly your swing anyway, until you get really really good. Not that equipment doesn't make a difference but if you swing a passable club well you'll get good results. If you swing Tiger Woods clubs poorly you will still suck.

Just buy used golf clubs or skip playing regular golf and get some frisbees for disc golf.

dude, i bought a set of drivers from the local sports shop for $100.
if you suck like i do, then why spend more than you need to.

just go to the sports store and find a set that feel comfy in your hands.
