I have the original WoW disks that I bought in 2004. I also bought BC when it came out but I cannot find the disks for that (lost during my last move). I bought WOTLK and Cata through digital download.

Is it possible to simply re-sub and then download all the content straight from Blizzard, or do I still need to start with my old disks?

TIA!

And really, considering the "upgrade hell" you'd go through if you tried to patch up to current stuff, it's less data just to pull the latest client directly.

It's simpler, but a monster download. Start it when you go to bed, it might be finished by the time you get home from work the next day.

Actually, if you pop in the original CD's or DVD if you had the collectors edition, it just a complete download for you right after anyways. It isn't "upgrade hell anymore", its just pointless.

Yeah this is what I was thinking. When I unsubbed last october the game was taking up like 33 gigs of HDD space, so obviously that number would be higher now.

Don't forget the 64 bit client if you are interested in trying that out.

I'm using Windows 7 Pro 64 bit, wouldn't that client be preferable/necessary?

Not necessary, the 32-bit client will work fine, but if you're running a 64-bit system then get the 64-bit client if only for keeping things simple.

Stick with the 64-bit client. It'll save you a lot of headaches.

64 bit client is amazing for a 64 bit system. i would have issues in deserts where i'd drop to like 20fps.. got the 64 bit client and now in deserts i'm dropping to 90fps from a fairly constant 120fps.
