Boards Archive] |
Welcome to the Vault Network
forum archive.
This is not a complete archive, time didn't allot us the
opportunity to properly backup the majority of the boards
deemed "expendable". Most boards on this list have at least
20-40 pages archived (non-logged in pages, 15 topics per
page).
Popular boards may have as many as 250 pages archived at 50
topics per page, while others deemed of historical
signifigance may be archived in their entirety.
We may not agree with how the board shutdown was managed, but
we've done what we could to preserve some of its history in
lieu of that.
Please enjoy the archive.

Does anyone here have one of these cleaning robots? Are they any good? Or are they just a gadget. Maybe both?

We have one for our townhouse. Programmed to run everyday at noon since we both work and are not home. We also have two dogs so that is why we run it once a day. I usually dump out the collection bin over the weekend. Must also mention it only runs on our main floor since it does not do stairs.

And is it worth it? It seems rather inefficient. Then again it's a effing robot and I might be able to justify the purchase even if it's only working so-so.

It works to an extent, do not expect it to get everything out of the carpets like an upright will. My biggest qualm is all the dog hair on the wood floors and it does a great job of getting that. It does do a decent job on the carpet, but it will take about 2 passes of the Roomba to get the same result on carpet as a good upright. If it's new carpet expect to dump the canister our after each run, the carpet fibers will fill it up quickly. I think its weight tbh, I can put extra pressure on my Dyson and really send it into the carpet, but the Roomba only weighs like 5lbs and can only get so far on its own. Get the docking station and programmable remote, its sold separately but makes it way more useful because you can let it run on its own and not have to manually start it. I also have a 2-3 year old model, the newer ones probably do a better job and I think there is a pet one I should look at but its low on my priority list.

So it gets dog dander off of wood floors without blowing it out of the way first?

If it does blow it away (it does a little) it will eventually get around and get all of it. Mine has a sensor that keeps track of how much dirt there is. If it finds an especially dirty spot, it will stop or make another pass over it. There is a little side brush thing that pulls dirt away from walls too since it cannot get all the way up next to it. But to answer your questions, yes it does a good job getting pet dander off the wood floors.
