I just defeated a boss by dealing 773 Points of damage in a single turn, and I'm only a level 9 Druid. The thing was a giant ooze, a corruptor I think, and it was located in a large moat with a plinth in the center; guarding the item we were after...

After getting our asses handed to us by it, nearly dying, we retreat. I got the idea to use Stone Spikes... Which created a 180 SQ FT area of spikes in the stone it was on... For every 5 ft area it deals 1d8... In the end dealing 773 points of damage and destroying the whole thing ^^

Imagine an ant you just stepped on crawling away; only to come back, driving a tank... Then imagine it ran you over with the tank...

Now add nerdism to it; and that's what I did in D&D

I've honestly never played D&D.

My friends tried to get me to play once, and made me a character. I had no clue what the hell they were talking about. So, I went and read a book.

But, I'm happy for you...that you dropped spikes into the mass of goo...and it died?

Or something.

Go you!

heh. i've done that as a GM. i remember one of the more useless characters (fairly inept thief/mage i think) tried to use some trinket that was supposed to summon a meteor because he wanted to blow up a local ale house. (he was drunk). well he used it and nothing happened (i liked that ale house and i was the gm not_talking ). about three days later game time they got themselves in a mess that would have ended in a party wipe via very angry dragon when by inspiration i dropped the meteor on the dragons head. it summoned the meteor just fine...from outer space. it had some distance to travel after all silly

Yeah if they got wiped once I probably would've done the same thing to move things along and remove the chance for stagnation/frustration.

Assuming you're talking about the spike stones spell, it doesn't work that way. It deals 1d8 damage per 5 feet the creature moves through the area, not every 5 feet the creature occupies.

But still, cool.

Yeah; not sure how that works for the larger than life creatures... But considering this things mass, defense, and attack power... It seems like the gm was looking for something creative to work it...

Like Steel said; gave it just to get it out of the way

Yeah, it works out well for my play style. I don't really use it to its full potential though... I think I've used Summon Nature's Ally a hand full of times... I play it like a Mage more than anything... Pumped up Wisdom do I get more spells to cast and such.

also it's an ooze, how is a piercing attack going to do damage to it?

The Ooze type doesn't grant immunity to piercing damage. Only a few specific oozes have that immunity.

I love the outside the box thinking of a good DnD session.

one time my gnome illusionist thief was adventuring and I had to get past a huge room full of zombies. the DM was drooling at the prospect of me trying to hide in shadows through the whole thing but I ducked out, drank a spider walk potion, and cast invisibility on myself and walked the roof over the room and out the door on the other side.

grin

good point as a DM I would have screwed the players over by saying the Ooze OOZES AROUND THE SPIKES! wink

but I'm evil.

For awesome single round damage I liked my thri-kreen ranger/scout/fighter/dancing dervish.

at level 20 I think I could charge, still do my full attack (which was like 36 attacks.)

improved initiative made sure I went first! grin

Once you get the rules down, there's little need for text as a player. I get loot lists, or scraps of paper from time to time... but the majority of it is talking back and forth, with a board and some pieces in the middle to help you keep track of what is going on.

From now on out, just like football's "The Catch", this will forever be known as "The Attack" and we will know what you are talking about.

I shutter to even imagine what might happen when you are level 10. worried worried

Paladins are really only good for comedic effect anyway. I set it to the Benny Hill theme.

i'm not up on d&d rules for the last couple expansions. do druids still cap out around 10 unless they take the rank of a higher druid? i remember there were only so many druids allowed in each rank above a certain level so if you wanted to hit 20 you had to become the only arch-druid in the world or something like that.

I've not seen any such requirements through Pathfinder... My druid is a bit out of the norm anyways though... He doesn't follow the "Only of the Earth" stuff your typical druid would... he's instead interested in merging culturism... build your cities, incorporating nature... not void of it. Also, while he doesn't mind being in all of the Earth cities, he can see the necessity for compromise, and the advantages it gives.

So... he's not exactly... umm... looked well upon by the druid community. I'm just glad he's not run up against any -other- druids yet... or I'd likely get shunned to high hell for my views...

I mean, he's got Profession Engineering for crying out loud, lol.

I don't think there are any hard restrictions like that anymore. There is no reason it CAN'T be used though, if the DM is willing to side-track his/her main plot in order to build in something to allow for advancement.. which would be cool but probably a lot of work.. there could be things like that for any class though, maybe I should try to come up with some when i have a good chunk of free time... maybe 5 yrs from now? /sigh
