You know...those super thin lightweight laptops that are trying to compete with the Apple Macbook Air.

I was looking at this one at the old shop: http://www.officemax.com/technology/computers/laptop-computers/product-prod3810054

I gotta say, the thing is sexy when you see it in person. And I'm not usually a laptop person but I was drawn to this particular one because it just looks and feels so nice.

I'll need a laptop soon for school so I figure get the small thin one with the fast processor and the SSD.

What do you say, too early to be buying laptops with a small size SSD in it? I figure you can always put a bigger in one later yourself eh?

My chief concern with those...

I'm a big person... I probably could snap one of those in half by accident... That's why I tend to go for bulkier laptops, harder to snap...

If you want a laptop that small just get a tablet with keyboard peripheral.

It feels quite well made and sturdy, it's a Toshiba. Should be alright long as you don't drop it or sit on it.

And 13.3" is too small for me... I prefer 15.6" or around there...

And cue the sexual innuendos...

I don't want a tablet. Tablets suck, seriously. They're overpriced and underpowered. They're for housewives who just need to surf the net to find cookbook recipes, and for dumbass college kids to play angry birds on between frat parties and sleeping in class.

The only thing that sucks about this ultrabook is no cd/dvd-rom drive :/

You post a $1000 laptop with terrible specs but "it's light" and then call tablets overpriced and underpowered?

I have three modes:

On the run.

Mobile.

Battle station.

This does not fit any of the three.

Am I wrong? All Ultrabooks are around this price range right now, you're paying extra for the form factor as well as for the SSD. A i5 processor and is hardly underpowered when compared to a tablet. Those tablets have processors that rival smartphone processors, they cant compete with a 2nd gen i5.

Am I wrong?

So instead of getting one overpriced, underpowered device. You get a different one.

Got it.

No, tablets are sucky and this thing is cool. What's so hard to understand? I'm dealing with chimps here.

It's grossly expensive. I'd rather spend less and get more power.. and a DVD drive.

Or i'd spend less and get a Kindle Fire..

Maybe if they go watch Transformers enough they'll get the idea that an ultra book can be a laptop and a tablet.

I hate being so ahead of the technological curve that every new invention seems plain stupid to me. I guess being limited by the current consumer market and overall profitability sucks and all, but I can't resist showing disdain. Every time I've read iPad from inception to pedestrian it has seemed shortsighted and humanly idiotic.

It's expensive now but by the time I get around to buying it it should drop in price significantly. It's just expensive because it's still new. It's not underpowered, I don't think you could argue that. It's overpriced sure, but not underpowered.

http://www.ibuypower.com/IbpPages/Notebook.aspx

The two on here for $1000 and $1100(regular price of that one).

One google search.

Hit up places like newegg and tigerdirect on sale... and you get a laptop that blows that one away in every
single category. For the same price.

But... they will not be light.

Ah yes, they will not be light. It's hard to imagine the difference between those 15-17" behemoth gaming laptops and the sleek little 13" ultrabook until you see them side by side.

You look at the size and the price and say it's underpowered and overpriced, I look at it as paying extra for a smaller, sleeker device...which I view as a feature, not a drawback.

Although it pains me to admit, you might be right. The attractive form factor is just not enough justification right now to jump on the ultrabook bandwagon, it's just too early.

love his Macbook Air

Say what you want, it's a sweet piece of machinery, ridiculously thin and light, and runs everything at it - including Windows 7 when I need to (LOLWINDOZE)

Even down to the power supply - tiny lightweight square instead of heavy brick.
