6 months without cable and the cost of the whole setup has been covered by what the cable bills would have cost.

Thanks Cabby and others for the help on that! money_eyes

dumbass
you should have just bought a sammy web tv.

i have a htpc, pentium quad core fullsize pc, and a ps3 all hooked up to my new sammy.
none of them get any use since the sammy can hit netflix and hulu on its own.

i havent had cable in almost a year

Panasonic, Sony and LG will all hit Hulu and Netflix too, my LG has a built in Plex Client* as well which makes streaming any downloads not only effortless but really pretty with the automatically downloaded Cover Art/Description, automatic sorting and excellent interface.

*Plex is an XBMC conversion originally developed for mac but the server is available for PC too

Originally yes, but it was ported years ago to unix and Windows cause old XBoxes can't run HD well, amongst other things.

Plex (also known as "Plexapp" or "Plex Media Center") is a partially open-source freeware media player with a 10-foot user interface, which is available for Intel-based Macintosh computers and computers running Microsoft Windows.[1] Its source code was initially forked from XBMC Media Center on May 21, 2008; this fork is used today as a front end media player for Plex's back end server component.[2][3][4]

I have no idea which wikipedia you use, but on one I use, it says:

"XBMC was originally created as a media center application for the first-generation Xbox game
console
but is now, since 2010, officially available as a native application for Linux, Mac OS X
(Snow Leopard, Leopard, Tiger), iOS (iDevices that are jailbroken), Apple TV, and Microsoft
Windows operating systems, running on most common processor architectures.[23] Also available
is a bootable Live CD and Live USB standalone version referred to as "XBMC Live" which is made
for easy setup on bare-metal installations and to be used for interactive demonstrations"

I don't recall the exact tech specs offhand. I bought a component style case and low heat/low noise hardware. I used a 50Gb SSD for the Windows partition and 2 mirrored 1TB WD hard drives for data. I added a flat indoor antenna in the basement and hooked it to my existing coax. I use Windows Media Center to DVR network TV and to access my personal media. I use Media Monkey to organize music. I use HippoRemote on my iPhone to control the HTPC and Remote Potato server to access media remotely. We have Netflix streaming and basic Hulu. I also use Clicker TV for finding shows. Anything I can't get I DL with Sabzband. I use my old WD worldbook as a backup server.
