Well, ban may be too strong a word, but most world religions at least discourage the consumption of bacon, whether because it's bacon or because it's meat.

Hindus, Buddhists, Muslim and Jews are all discouraged from eating bacon. Between them that's quite a large % of the world's religious population.

Christianity is actually the only major world religion that doesn't discourage eating bacon. grin

stems from the fact that at the time of the founding of those religions they didn't know how to properly treat swine.

A lot of those things arn't about hygenie but about distinguishing yourself from the tribe next door.

I wouldn't be surprised if the natinoal dish of the philistines was pork with clams and scallops in cream sauce and that's why you can't eat any of those things. grin
