And yet the official position of the Ubama regime is voter ID laws are racist.

The United States’s voter registration system is in chaos — with about 24 million registrations are no longer valid and nearly 2 million dead people still on voter rolls, according to a new report Tuesday.

Along with the one of every eight voter registrations that is not valid or has significant inaccuracies, there are 2.75 million people currently registered to vote in more than one state, the Pew Center on the States study found. And the millions of problematic registrations aren’t the only issue — researchers estimate at least 51 million eligible U.S. citizens aren’t registered to vote. That’s nearly one in four, or 24 percent of the eligible population.

Additionally, about 12 million records have incorrect addresses, meaning it’s unlikely any mailings can reach these voters, the research in the report shows. [...]

There also are more than 1.8 million deceased people who still have active registration on voter rolls, Pew found. And, Becker said, the outdated, inefficient systems currently in place are “not designed to keep up with deaths as they occur.”

Considering how many people are in the United States, 1.8 million isnt that much. Couldnt it be possible that many people are recently deceased and just have been taken off the voting registrars yet? 1.8 million over the course of four years(the down time between Presidential elections) doesnt seem that large.

Also just because someone is registered doesnt mean they cast a vote. Voting fraud I guess would be easier with a registered dead person but at face value registration is just an accounting of people who are eligible to vote.

you say that but it was narrowly decided to keep Bush for another term in Florida where that margin might have decided the presidency.

i still find it amusing that my grandfather was still on the voter registration list last year.
he's been dead for 5 years now!

street - number - name, that's all i need to tell the old ladies to vote.
hell, my ex was still on the list and she moved out of state in '98!
the 4 unit apartment(all 2 br's) building has 3 pages of registered voters...there's probably about 25 per page.

sure confirmed voting scams are low, but something so damn easy to do should be stopped.

$13 every six years.

All states don't have these?

that would be true if the 1.8 million were all in one state, they werent.  As far as I can understand 1.8 million was nationwide.  If 1.8 million was the average per state then that would be more like asking for wide spread corruption. lol

yeah, they need to just go ahead and require photo ID...most voters have a driver's license, and those that don't can go get a photo ID made easily (I had to get one to take my ACT for school...that seems less important than potentially choosing the person who will run the United States for 4 years).

the people saying no to it just don't want to lose all their illegal votes that they know they get.

You have the wrong take-away from this. The larger issue is not fraudulent voters; it's legitimate voters who are in for a nasty surprise come election day.

Do you realize why Newt Gingrich and Rick Perry aren't on the Virginia primary ballot? At least Gingrich submitted over 10% more than he needed, normally plenty to cover any discrepancies which might arise. It was because Virginia chose to use the new verification rules for the general in validating the petitions, and anybody with the slightest error such as "Maple Road" instead of "Maple Street" was eliminated.

This report says 24 million people will have these types of discrepancies.

Election day is going to be extremely messy.

I agree with you combat. Voting should be taken away from the states and given to the federal government to control.

States have too much interests in their own elections and corruption has been rampant... maybe the Social Security cards/greencards could have a pict that needs to be updated every 5 years or something.

I think they did the best they could with the situation they were given.  One of them had to lose and one had to win. By the time it got to the Supreme Court I doubt if anyone really knew who had actually won in FL. This was due to all the recounting and moving/destroying of ballots and everything else that went on down there.

Has absolutely nothing to do with the Supreme Court, voting is a state thing, they just didn't want to wait and bypassed their power limits.

Everyone is registered to vote if they voted in the most recent presidential election, so if they died since Obama came into office, they're still registered. I think they even give more time than that, as I wasn't able to vote in the previous election because they sent my absentee ballot to the wrong address, but I was still able to vote in the next election.

just because they're registered doesn't mean they'll actually vote, instead of making new laws about showing ID, maybe they should just figure out how to automatically remove people from the list when they die.

it's sad that so many people can't be bothered to vote yet there are nearly 2 million people who won't even let death keep them from the polls

Watching the reports on this and the grandstanding from all sides of the political spectrum, it is truly shocking just how much the basic principle of common sense has become detatched from our electoral process.

Is this a problem? Yes. And one that must be addressed, although it is a relatively minor problem and one that is harmless if proper precautions are taken, and one that self corrects over time. Most of it stems from the simple fact that it takes 2 full presidential election cycles to purge an inactive voter or inaccurate registration from the roles. This staggering number of double registrations and registered dead people is not however any form of election fraud or a deliberate act to undermine the system. It is simply an inerrant inefficiency of the system itself. So long as simple and reasonable steps are taken to prevent this inefficiency from being undermined or utilized by fraud then it really is a relatively minor non issue.

Short term the simple fix. The verification via photo id that the voter is who he or she says they are and resides where they claim to. Basic voter ID laws outright eliminate any fraud risks from this.

More troubling are the sudden calls that as a result of this major problem elections must be more centrally managed and controlled and taken away from the local level. That is a concept that is so ripe with fraud as to be staggering. A call for action worthy of Vladimir Putin or Hugo Chavez.

Anyone who believes that passing state laws requiring purchased voter picture ID cards, only available at the state DMV branch offices, and then subsequently closing DMV locations in liberal districts (as a cost cutting measure for the state, get it? winnky winky) isn't a deliberate attempt to disenfranchise minority voters is a complete moron.

Anyone who believes that passing state laws mandating college kids have to travel home to vote in the district of their listed home address instead of voting at their college isn't a deliberate attempt to disenfranchise huge liberal voting blocks is a complete moron.

"Why yes Tyrone, we do offer free busing services to the DMV in the next district over. Just kindly give the nice state trooper over at the table your name and address please."

A black man gets elected president, and before the next election 38 states dramatically change voting laws for the first time in 60 years making it more difficult for that same black man to be reelected.

Probably a coincidence. rolling_eyes
