Boards Archive] |
Welcome to the Vault Network
forum archive.
This is not a complete archive, time didn't allot us the
opportunity to properly backup the majority of the boards
deemed "expendable". Most boards on this list have at least
20-40 pages archived (non-logged in pages, 15 topics per
page).
Popular boards may have as many as 250 pages archived at 50
topics per page, while others deemed of historical
signifigance may be archived in their entirety.
We may not agree with how the board shutdown was managed, but
we've done what we could to preserve some of its history in
lieu of that.
Please enjoy the archive.

Anti-Obesity Billboard Campaign Attacked As Bullying

posted: The Strong4Life campaign, run by Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, has posted billboards in the Atlanta area since August featuring unflattering black and white photos of unhappy fat children. The posters are accompanied by a warning banner and messages such as: "Chubby isn't cute if it leads to type two diabetes"; and "Being fat takes the fun out of being a kid".
Those behind the campaign defended the advertising, insisting there is a public health issue at stake. "We saw the problem as something that we should take some responsibility for, and something that we had to fix," Mark Wulkan, surgeon-in-chief at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, told the BBC. "When we looked at how do you get that awareness, really the most effective means are to use techniques that some might say are controversial," says Dr Wulkan.
The Strong4Life ads were partly modelled on a successful anti-methamphetamine campaign in the state.
But online activists saw the billboards as bullying, and said they play up dangerous stereotypes about health and size.
It is totally wrong to do anything that might give children any kind of message that might damage their self-image. Strong4Life should be ashamed and as a token of repentance, they should provide all the kids in Atlanta with a tub of lard and a spoon.

Fat parents will have fat kids it's a trickle down effect from a disgusting diet, a diet of ignorance and lack of knowledge.
