Boards Archive] |
Welcome to the Vault Network
forum archive.
This is not a complete archive, time didn't allot us the
opportunity to properly backup the majority of the boards
deemed "expendable". Most boards on this list have at least
20-40 pages archived (non-logged in pages, 15 topics per
page).
Popular boards may have as many as 250 pages archived at 50
topics per page, while others deemed of historical
signifigance may be archived in their entirety.
We may not agree with how the board shutdown was managed, but
we've done what we could to preserve some of its history in
lieu of that.
Please enjoy the archive.

http://www.google.com/hostednews/ap/article/ALeqM5ibnfMMuChdANEyWBuOeV4T8z1N3g?docId=3a26408c586645fe98db463c11a41451 The United States proposed an international coalition to support Syria's opposition Sunday after Russia and China blocked a U.N. attempt to end nearly 11 months of bloodshed, raising fears that violence will escalate. Rebel soldiers said force was now the only way to oust President Bashar Assad, while the regime vowed to press its military crackdown. The threat of both sides turning to greater force after Russia and China vetoed a U.N. Security Council resolution raises the potential for Syria's turmoil to move into even a more dangerous new phase that could degenerate into outright civil war. The uprising inspired by other Arab Spring revolts began in March with peaceful protests against Assad's regime, sparking a fierce crackdown by government forces. Soldiers who defected to join the uprising later began to protect protesters from attacks. In recent months the rebel soldiers, known as the Free Syrian Army have grown bolder, attacking regime troops and trying establish control in pro-opposition areas. That has brought a heavier government response. While I support this action I get a kick out of the fact that this sort of coalition was condemned by the left when republicans formed them, after all the U.N. is the end all be all and we can't act without a U.N. resolution.

Politicians are like diapers, they should be changed often and for the same reason.

who needs the UN? Look to those who created it. Statists,/progressives/socialists with the expressed goal of control without having to deal, with the roadblock of laws each nation has

Its pointless. Israel is breaking UN resolutions and mandates right now and nobody cares. We need to disolve the UN or kick out members that dont respect it. Unfortunately the big funder (USA) is also the one that respects its decisions the least. So its just a propaganda and intimidation tool.

It's beyond stupid. Syria needs help a hell of a lot more than Libya did, but Assad has been much more careful in forming his alliances, so he gets to keep shooting rockets at his own people. I'm not a big fan of unilateral action but it pisses me off the way we pick and choose our way through this mess. The media isn't even mentioning Bahrain, whose protesters are also being shot at by their own government. I heard a really good quote from a Bahraini protester last week (paraphrased somewhat) - "when small children are dying from tear gas, and those canisters say 'Made in Pennsylvania', that speaks much louder than Obama's speeches".

Follow the money, or in the case of Libya, gold.
