A House-Senate conference report this week called on the Administration to accelerate the use of civilian unmanned aerial systems (UAS), or “drones,†in U.S. airspace.
The pending authorization bill for the Federal Aviation Administration directs the Secretary of Transporation to develop within nine months “a comprehensive plan to safely accelerate the integration of civil unmanned aircraft systems into the national airspace system.â€

Drones sort of remind me of an old star trek episode.
The one where they are on a planet far away(lol every episdoe) but there was some sort of computer simulation that decided Kirk and some of his crew were killed in an attack. Kirk had a problem with this saying war should be messy.
Drone planes flying over all these foreign countries blowing people up I just can;t see how we are the good guys in all of this. Yeah some people need to die but I dont think we would like drones flying over our airspace killing our people without trial.

You can build a drone that you can control with your smart phone for under 500 bucks that can stay airborne for days at a time and relay video data back to your phone. Right now, today, with materials you can get anywhere that don't take much technical skill to utilize.
For a few more dollars, you can equip that drone with a few things that will allow you to either take down or take over drones built by other people....even the government.
Just sayin.....

I am sort of mixed on this one.
I see the reasonable benefits. Drones can easily do the main tasks currently done by police aviation units and assorted private traffic spotting planes and helicopters. Far more cheaply and much safer. There is no reason to not let the Channel 7 traffic report dude fly a stryofoam RC plane to watch for traffic instead of a million dollar helicopter.
But on the same note the thought of the government or almost worse Google running overhead spy drones 24x7 to watch where everyone goes is sort of sobering and chilling

This is where I am at.
The practical applications of this are far reaching, but so are the possibilities of abuse.
