Subject: AMD or Intel for Laptops?
For desktops, I know that AMD tend to be cheaper than Intel, however, I am unsure about laptops since it has been some time I've researched laptops or have kept up-to-date with current technology for laptops.

I've been glancing at a laptop that looks good, however, I've been hesitating at buying it because of it being an AMD. I've tried to find information comparing AMD and Intel for laptops, so either my google-fu is failing me or I'm Blind and as well Deaf, lol... So if anyone has suggestions.

This laptop will last several years and I welcome suggestions of what to look at. I don't need top-of-line since I don't plan on doing any gaming or any heavy graphic work.

So, like I said, any suggestions are welcome. The specs of what I'm looking for... 4gb ram, and 500+gb (no need for ssd), approx a 15 incher... Budget around $500 - $600 (but cheaper would be better, heh)

I've been quite happy with my HP laptop, intel chip. it's getting a bit on the older side now, and runs kinda hot, I think the Intel "I" line is supposed to run cooler than AMD chips.

An i5 would be fine for what you need but an i7 will mean the laptop will be useful for longer. If you have a Costco membership they have good deals on the hps

Well, I came across this... Wasn't really planning on buying from Staples. I was just exploring what's available out there...

http://www.staples.com/Acer-Aspire-AS5755-6482-156-Laptop/product_376283&cmArea=CIRCULAR#pr-header-376283

I think it's one of the good deals, despite it being an i3

Intel® Coreâ„¢ i3-2330M Processor (2.2GHz)
6GB installed memory
750GB hard drive

And yes, I do have a Costco membership... I'll have to look and see...

I would steer queer of Acer. I would stick with Toshiba, Asus, HP, or Dell.

An i3 is fine for what you want. I like to buy from Costco because they stand behind their stuff. They have comparable HPs at Costco.

Hmm...

I'll think about it...

And RC - I'm not wild about Dell, lol... I've had HP and Toshiba laptops before... But I'm still looking around...

I looked around for a laptop that had vents/fans on the side instead of just on the bottom, HP was the only one I found that had that configuration.

of course, it doesn't matter now, as I have to use it on a cooling pad if I want to do anything more than surf or use Word.

Heh...

One thing I was surprised when I was looking... Gateway is still around...

The first computer my family bought 20-ish years ago was a Gateway desktop... Full Tower with a huge monitor & etc... lol

the 2nd gen Intel i3/5/7 series is pretty much better than anything AMD right now. There's a reason AMD laptops are cheaper than the intel ones.

Alrighty...

Looks like I'll aim for an i3 or i5... I just think that i7 is too much power for what I intend to do with the laptop.
