Well, they both brought home a couple of low math scores (not failing, but not what I expect) and so they are grounded.
Well I should say they are also grounded for not really doing their chores as they should.
So no phone
No computer
No tv
Nothing but books until further notice.
We made a contract that hangs on the fridge with certain steps to get back privileges - mostly related to test scores, homework scores and chores.
Anyhow, since they have been grounded they have been awesome. They have been playing scrabble at the dining room table, making paintings, practicing their instruments and talking to us at length about school and the books they are reading.
In fact we just had a great conversation about Of Mice and Men versus Catcher in the Rye.
Here's my conundrum - why would I ever unground them??????

Of Mice and Men is an awesome story.
My parents used to ground me all the time, it was a reason to spend 12 hours in front of the T.V. playing Sega. It took them awhile before they realized they had to take away the T.V. too.

Poet's daughters will either up end super successful hard working women, or they will go crazy one they get out of daddy's house.
That's what happened to me.
I didn't drink or do any drugs until I was 20 and out of my parents house. Once I spread my wings things got crazy.

How old are your daughters poet? I must know before making inappropriate comments
On the topic at hand. they are poets kids and he would know them best. I assume that the girls are clearly capable of doing better than a 70. I used to get scores of 70-80 without trying and I was congratulated for good scores. That reinforced lazy behavior, most schools these days would also not say much to students who score 70.
poet will know what his girls are capable of and teach them a worthwhile lesson that they will appreciate later. It is great that you engage with your kids and their learning as well.
when I got to Uni and didn't work hard I got terrible scores. I had to work even harder to get scores back up to where I wanted to be. It doesn't suit everyone but I really wish my parents made that kind of effort with me

They'll probably rebel once they're out of your house and you won't be able to bully them into towing the line.
I was a straight laced kid all through high school, and even made the Dean's and President's lists in college. Then I moved out, and my dad had no control over my actions anymore.
I stopped going to school, had an affair with a married woman and started drinking heavily and doing drugs.
I didn't have a clue what I wanted because I had always been told what I was supposed to want. Once I had freedom to really explore life I found a lot of things I was way more interested in than what my father wanted for me, and a lot of them were things he always told me were bad.
I'm not saying it will happen, but I think it's something you should be mindful of. Are you guiding your children down the path they want to go, or are you forcing them to be children you can be proud of?

Poet is not over doing it. My baby mama was a bear and we always used to question if she was too hard on him.
When he graduated high school early with honors I suspected.
When he graduated college early with honors I was pretty sure.
Now he has a good job, makes great money and will take his vacation in Ireland this year.
That confirms it. She did just fine.
At his high school graduation while he was giving his speech after getting his honors award I saw 3 young multi color mohawk toughs smoking cigarettes under the bleachers. I pointed them out to the girlfriend and said, "If I had raised him he'd be over there getting ready for his next tattoo instead of deciding which college to go to."
I suspect Poet is a great Dad.
